Question about installing subs

Alright I've replaced all the speakers and the deck in my '09 sedan. I generally listen to death metal so the Kappas I had in the back put out more bass than I needed anyway so I never worried with a sub. A friend of mine introduced me to dubstep and I enjoy it rather thoroughly. Problem is that without a sub it sounds weird in my car. Some songs are fine but some are so low I guess those speakers just can't put the sound out or something. Either way I'd like to clean it up (my deck has a hi-pass filter) and just dump all the bass to some subs. I've never done a sub install before, all the audio I've ever installed for people has just been decks and speaker swaps. Don't know the first thing about car subwoofer installs. I am under the impression that I basically have to have an amp to run one of these so I have a few questions.

1. I have the 10% underdrive pulley. Am I going to drain my battery with an amp if I'm listening to it loud down the road?

2. What are some good recommendations for use in the Yaris? I don't have to be heard a mile away, but I'd like to rattle mirrors around a bit :P

Q2) I could throw out a dozen 10 or 12" small sealed subwoofers that you'd be happy with but its all up to personal preference and budget. A Type R sealed would most likely be great for you.

I don't really know what a good set of subs cost, but I'm not afraid to throw some coin out. I don't want to go outrageous or anything, but I figured I wouldn't get out of this with less than $400 in it.

Not necessarily, just depends on how much "bass" you want.

If you want it tight and crisp or more "loud and boomboom" like although in a perfect enclosure there can be a sort of harmony. How much room you are willing to give up and if you really need 2 subs is also a question.

If you are looking for something easy yet gives you a nice little bump you could always go the route I did and still have. A SAS Bazooka BTA 10250. It is amplified and very easy to pull out if needed. The only other thing you would need to do is get your wiring for power, ground, and remote. If you are looking for a lot of thump with the type that rattles or vibrates your mirrors hard then a dedicated box along with a stand alone amp would be the route to go. The BTA 10250 goes great with that deck if you are running the speakers off of it and are not going to be amplifying them. Don't forget I had that HU in my car for almost 5 yrs so I know personally...the biggest key tho is like the Architect said...it all depends on what you are looking for any personal taste. Jinni has heard my setup so maybe you can get her opinion too. The 10250 is a Class D so it has more efficient circuitry than mine (BTA 10200). As a point of reference you will want to install 4 gauge wire from the battery to the back if you want to go this route. The 10250 I believe requires 8 gauge, but if you go 4 with a distro block you are already prewired to install another amp for your other speakers...just food for thought. For dubstep you may just want to go with a ported box, tuned low.
Otherwise I completely agree with a 12" Type R and 300-500w RMS, they redesigned the Type R's in 2010 and they're excellent values for the $.

I don't really want to permanently lose any trunk space (when we go on trips it's usually full) but the permanent style systems seem to be better. Is there any way I could mount a sub under the rear seats? I've never removed them so I'm not really sure what's under there.

Here's an idea...

Take a look at a Digital Designs 1508 in it's own ported enclosure from the factory. you take up about a cube of room. You save space, don't have to have a lot of power and I can guarantee you that little 8" woofer will throw you for a loop it gets so loud...

Look for a dealer around your area, have a listen. I know if you were up here, you'd be hooked. It really checks the requirements you have. Small space and great output.

This is one choice I'd have NO reservations making.

I have used Bazooka Tubes in all my cars but with a aftermarket Radio. So I have used RCA Outputs NOT the Speaker Wires! Will they work as well because I actually like the Factory Radio, especially with my IPhone! I found adapters thatconvert Speaker Wires over to RCA but they are $25 EACH! And I don't see Factory Outputs either??!! Thanks Bud
