I thought that for 2012, the sedan was discontinued?

I wasn't expecting this, but I can't say I'm terribly surprised. The sedan is pretty popular around here (though still less so than the hatch).
Shame it didn't even get a refresher though. I wonder when when/if we can expect the Belta to get a new look.

The hatch and the sedan are designed independently of each other so Toyota is definitely waiting for at least one year before redesigning the sedan.

i read, in car and driver i think, that the sedan was not being change for 2012, but it was only offered as a fleet vehicle.

That is a Toyota Canada website, so looks like the sedan will be available at least in Canada. Glad to see it. I like my sedan.

A while back......CTScott posted a PDF file with small thumbnails of the 2012 Yaris Sedan. It has a few minor changes to the exterior....from what i recall.
A different looking body kit aka lips on it for the S model?

Interesting that they don't show the 2012 Yaris Hatchback on the Toyota Canada site yet either... still only showing the 2011 Hatchback. Canada probably isn't getting the updated Hatchback until later.

Received my Club Toyota magazine today and they had a 2 page article on the 2012 Yaris Hatch Back and it was definitely the new 2012 HB. I guess I should walk up to the Toyota Dealer tomorrow and see what they have in the showroom.

Toyota Canada just posted a teaser for the new Yaris Hatch
http://www.toyota.ca/toyota/en/vehicles/yaris_hatchback/teaser
Very unlikely to be in showrooms yet, they probably want to clear out as many of the 2011s as possible.

I keep saying it, but people like to believe these stupid rumors from Toyota janitors who have know a guy who's uncle's nephew's cousin's brother's ex-wife's former roommate was the CEO of Toyota.
The Vios/Yaris sedan is not going to be discontinued. It has a different product cycle, and a new model will drop, likely next year or the year after. It's possible they may drop it from the USA lineup, but I doubt it! But at this point it's better not to guess and just wait for an official statement.

simply put, until its new model drops in 2013 toyota has decided to put the yaris sedan on the back burner and offer it to rental fleets only.

likewise here, the new Yaris is hitting showrooms very soon, but no news about a new Vios yet. It may receive a second facelift, Toyota is starting to do that on several models now...

toyota is smart. they see the trend toward 5 door hatches.
i have complete confidence that the yaris sedan is dead.

You're right... that's why the Accent, Fiesta, Versa, and Sonic don't have sedan variants. Oh wait...
I've complete confidence the Yaris sedan will be here to stay. It remains fully available in Canada along side the new Yaris Hatchback.
The new sedan is just a little behind the hatchback since they are technically 2 completely different cars.

.
the take rates on the sedans makes up a smaller and smaller percentage every year. it is a trend that happened overseas a long time ago and will continue here. the take rate on the yaris, versa and accent already favors the hatchback (and im not even sure about the others), and honda didnt even bother with a sedan version of the fit (and has long been the most highly regarded subcompact for some time).
carmakers are only going to bother with subcompact sedans for so long.

Actually, they have the Honda City. It is a Fit based sedan and sells quite well here.

I like the look of the Honda city. I'd stay Toyota tho even if it was offered.

honda knew very few would want a subcompact sedan in the n. america when the fit has so much utility.
nissan learned it with the versa , for which the hatchback outsold the sedan by a huge margin. their versa sedan fills one role right now...it allows them to advertise the cheapest car in america. when the new hatch comes, id guess nobody will care for the sedan.
the yaris sales trended away from the sedan to the hatch over the last few years.

Fortunately, the world consists of more than N. America.

Lots of sedans in my part of the world. Hope they (and it looks like they will) keep selling them here.

Just received my new configuration for the Yaris and they let me configure a 4 dr sedan. So guess they are selling them here. HB starts at $13,990 CAD and the sedan at $14,990 CAD. Have to walk up to the dealership and have a look.

I don't mind that. As long as they don't change the body style my 2007 doesn't look old.

Ugh, I don't like the chrome piece going all the way across the trunk (like on the Civic sedan).

good for you then, coz i would assume the cheaper variants would only get color-keyed ones at best or black for that same part.
the cheaper variants here have the frugal 1.3L 2NZFE (although they have trim levels as the 1.5L ones, but not vice versa--they give the best in the city driving/stop and go traffic than any other car made by any manufacturer in the recent years (except the 1st gen sedans/echo based), which cost around a good $1500ish less than the 1.5L 1NZFE engines.
i got this sedan because of the small engine, so if there was a 1.0L available here, i wouldve gotten that instead. it doesnt make sense to get a small car for pure city commute and a big engine, unless you want to race it or something.

It wasn't meant as an attack...just an opinion....you didn't say you owned one in your other post.

Car looks good, you VIOS guys are lucky. Toyota seems to be all over the place again. So they make this shape for you guys, keep the Axio for themselves and the rest of the world still awaits the new Corolla.

oh the new corolla is definitely way better in terms of looks. but the thing with most of the areas of the world now, the 1.6L up cars are like the previous 2.0L cars of the 90s. they are like the accords and galants who have less share in the market--thus in a few years get a relatively faster depreciation rate when sold used.
