Coilovers

I am not a suspension buff so I leave it you, the experts. Looking for a set of coilovers for my DD. Its never gonna see the track again but maybe the drag strip. Any suggestions?

What are you looking for out of your suspension? If you're just looking to lower the car, I would suggest lowering springs.

Lowering springs are cheaper then coilovers, and will lower your car like coilovers but you will need new shocks as well to compensate for the stiffer springs, and also once you put the new springs on that's how the ride height is, you can't make it lower or higher unless you put on different springs. (You can probably get lowering springs and sport shocks for around 500 bucks.)

Coilovers are much more expensive but give you the ability to adjust your ride height, some may be too hard for a DD, others may give you better ride quality then before. (Be prepared to pay $1,000 or more for some really good coilovers though.)
Some coilovers even give you the option of adjusting dampening or other settings.

It depends on what you want really and how much money you want to spend.
Personally, I would like to eventually enter my Yaris in Autocross, so i'm planning on getting some Silk road coilovers.
Either will work really, but it depends on what you want out of your suspension.

This is just for street use. I already have lowering springs and was thinking coilovers for a more spirited drive. Not looking for anything crazy cause it am no longer racing. So maybe I should be looking at shocks then?

I have tanabe df210 and the stock struts... I like how the springs set , but for me the spring rate is a little too soft... especialy the front. And to get a new set of struts is about $400 for the blue tokico and about $900 for the red one ...that's why Im getting a new set of coilover from Garm in a day or two.

at least with the coilover you have the options either for a dd or spirited race :D

There isn't any Garm but just tossed it out there but I actually had to make a account on Honda Tech so I could get it trough a vendor since she had to get on contact with me

You could also ping jpadua. He has the AMR coilovers on his ride and he says that he loves them. According to Andy, the owner of AMR, Jay is tweaking around with his all of the time. I am pretty sure that next spring I will be purchasing the AMRs myself as I have been very pleased with the AMR lowered springs that I have had on for about a year and a half.

Here's my two cents:

For coilovers, I'd go Tein. They'll likely ride the best (e.g. not a hard-core track setup). I had the Megan Racing coilovers and will never buy another Megan Racing product again. Poor customer service, extremely stiff, and low-quality springs. My paint was flaking off on them after a year and springs were rusting (that's living in a place that doesn't get snow or use salt on roads).

If you decide you don't want adjustable coilovers, I'd go with Tein S-Techs on Tokico HPs.

just a matter of opinion and preference and how much money you got. Both are reputable name brands and Garm sells both.

I personally like the stiffness of my megans and have had them almost a year now, springs are still in good shape. i like how they adjust dampening to extreamly hard to mildly hard.. lol..

AMR @ $1500 is very steep. There is just no reason to spend that kind of money on a street car. Just my opinion. If you want to spend $1500, I have Cusco 03's, KW Var. 3, Silk Road (which I have on my own car) etc. which are amazing set ups.

I think Andy got a bad set of Megans, honestly. I haven't had that kind of feedback and we've sold a ton of them. Teins are a great street ride coilover.

As for installation difficulty, the rears are super easy (it's not a coilover back there, just a shock and a spring). The fronts, you need a couple of tools or an impact wrench to do this without trouble. You will re-use some of your stock strut parts (hat, bearing), also. So some preparation and study will make the job a LOT easier.

QFT. I went from Megan coils to Tein S-Techs an Tokico HPs. Never looked back.

I recomend silk road. I plan to get those eventually. A good friend of mine has them on his 11second tercel and its just a perfect controlled ride.

Do people ever combine standard type rear shocks/springs with coil over fronts? I'm happy with the ride height of my df210's, but I'd like to keep the front from leaning/bouncing at 100+ thru curves....the bounce doesn't sit well with me at speed.

I had the stock + DF210 ...installed the Tanabe pro today and don't think to go back

vten, I also got the tanabe coils and love them.
I had the tein s-techs on stock shocks and I found them to be too bouncy and not low enough for my taste.
The new coils are stiff but not brutal.
