My Yaris goes 0-60 in 4.6 seconds in REM sleep.

I bet that in a free fall the Yaris could be just as fast as any other car!!

nope, it's lighter so it will fall slower

welcome to the year 1420 :)
The auto is definitely under 10 seconds, 9.x is what I clocked, although we all know how accurate that is.

I clocked mine at 9.143325456 seconds.
The 9.4sec is probably from a normal take-off without over reving and the under 9.0 sec is achieved by giving it some gas before dropping the clutch. Since the Yaris doesn't seem to have much initial (under 2500rpm) power, getting the Rev's up while dropping the clutch should make for a significantly better take-off. Also, I doubt the hard drop with sticky tires will bog down the engine (unlike my old car, which bogged down easily from a hard drop).
My old 98 Civic Hatch has the same weight and power as my new Yaris and that car was rated 8.6sec to 100km/hr, which is very fast considering the gigantic gearings in the Civic's DX engine. The Yaris could be just as fast or faster to 100km/hr if it had some sticky rubber up front. That way, you could burn some clutch, get a jump start, and get the car into the meat of the power at above 3000rpm asap, but the dinky stock tires will have to go in order to support a hard drop.

ok now if u throw a short throw shifter and the way i see it each short throw per gear will save you about 1/2 sec.. out of 3 gear shifting will save u approx 1.5 sec.. from 9 sec down to 7.5 might be possible.. dont you think guys...i think i think.....

1. Because of inertia you wont de-accelerate during shifts, the momentum you already generated will continue to push you during fast shifts.
2. If a short shifter saves you 0.5 seconds per shift... And it still takes time to shift even though you now have up to a 30% reduction in throw, how long does it take you to shift with a short shifter? 1.2 seconds... Wow!
3. I'm pretty sure you can hit 60 mph in 2nd gear with a Yaris 5 speed... But I'm not 100%. I know for a fact you wont have to shift 3 times.
A short throw MIGHT save you about 0.25 of a second from your 0-60!

2nd gear on the auto goes to 65, perhaps 63 or so... im lookin at teh tach at that point, not the speedometer lol
on that note, manually shifting the auto makes a very big difference 0-60... its basically the difference between landing nicely in the powerband and taking a second or so to get any power back... the shift from 2nd to 3rd is even more noticeable since the auto shifts itself even sooner.

When shifting from 1st to 2nd, the stock tires will cherp when doing it quickly. So, there's tiny bit of lost time from the tires braking loose.
Personally, I don't see how the short shifter will help since you'd still need to go down on the clutch faster then you could shift and the clutch travel doesn't get shorten with a short-shift kit. But if you've got really fast feet .25sec seems reasonable.

I have measured mine, at about 10.5 secs.
I have measured mine, at about 10.5 secs.
The bigger 1.5L should be able to shave off 1.5sec off that time.

Do u think that a short shifter really helps?

I am sure the terminal velocity of a Yaris is the same as 3500 Dually.... The Yaris is lighter, but more stream line, a dually weighs more, but creates more wind resistance.... so I am sure they have similar terminal velocities

Hi, just being very curious...
we are now in an era where we are concious about FC, is the 0-60km/h or 0-100km/h still that important?
to me, if the delay is just merely a few seconds of difference, then that is negligable...
added:
also read from some of above posts... IMHO, generally, why objects with same weight fall at different rate because it also due to air friction.. :)

No, see, I don't give a damn about fuel consumption... well at least not since I got a Yaris.

then may i assume u are a "need for speed" fan? :thumbsup:salute:
There's so many factor effecting the 0-60, it's not a reliable gage to judge a car's performance ability. All it seems good for, is bragging rights (and I do love to brag  ).
Otherwise, max torque and it's flatness through the rev, combined with many gears (like six) that are nicely spaced out, would be a better judge of car's true ability. Oh yeah, also got to take curb weight into consideration.
Initial or under 2000rpm torque doesn't seem to be given due credit (probably because it has very little effect on the performance stats), but when you're not racing or doing high speeds, most of the engine's time will be spent in the low rpm range. Since N.A. tends to be more slow paced then Europe, the under 2000rpm range should be given more priority.
