My 2011 seems to have an abnormally fast idle just after starting from cold.

So fast, that I'm hesitant to put it into a gear until 20 or 30 seconds afterwards, when it settles down.

Seems kind of odd, fuel-injected and all. I don't recall another FI car being like that.

It's a 2011 LB, automatic....anyone else?

Would help if you'd tell us what you consider very fast idle. Cold, I rev 1300-1500 rpm. I think we all do.

Tachometer? Whats that?

Very fast idle, being substantially faster than its normal idle when warmed up...and enough to cause a fair clunk when putting into gear if I don't wait for it to slow down (which it does eventually)

mine will idle that high when its cold....most cars do

but i guess you're used to 70* weather all the time and it never happens?

It's just warming up, I usually like to let mine sit a few minutes before taking off . Totally normal. It should settle quickly.

It's normal. Just the engines way of getting the emissions up to operating temperature and if I were not driving a manual I'd probably notice it more when I put it in gear. I do have and '08 RAV4 as well and it does exactly what you describe and is a 2.4 liter

Sounds like its not out of the normal, (our Scion xD is my point of comparison) so Ill stop Worrying about it.

Thebarber....it isn't always 70 degrees here. Sometimes it dips down to 67 or 68:thumbsup:

Thanks for the help folks!

My 2007 is the same way.
You may also notice the automatic transmission shifts at a different RPM than when warmed up. Mine will not go into fourth until the Cold LED symbol goes off.
