Me and my Yaris were the meat in a three car sandwich yesterday. Stopped traffic on an exit ramp and I was the last car stopped on the ramp when a lady exited the highway (at highway speed) and didnt see us stopped in time and slammed into the back of me pushing me into an equinox in front of me.
Yaris was towed to a wrecker yard where the lady's insurance has taken over and towed to a body shop. Still not sure if its totaled or not. The lady's civic was quite obviously totaled, her front bumper practically met her firewall, both her airbags deployed, but they say my yaris might be "fixable". She looked remarkably good compared to the civic that hit her.
I, on the other hand, am at home with sore everything, especially my neck and shoulders. My poor yaris. Hopefully they can fix her.
idk man, it may be better if it is totalled and you can put that towards another. I have heard way too many stories of a car being "fixed" and 6 months later something random and odd popping up that can't be fixed.
it is nice to know that the yaris will hold up in a crash. I assume your air bags didn't deploy. that usually totals a vehicle. airbags are retartedly expensive.

As long as it's only sore things, they will heal. My sympathies on the crunch, and hopes for a full (and quick) recovery.

You most definitely have whiplash. Go get that taken care of now. I got rear ended by a lady doing 30 once and I had it really bad. If you don't get it taken care of now, it won't get better, and in 15 or 20 years you'll be feeling it even worse.

Glad to hear you survived. Your step now is to get a lawyer and follow that up with a hospital visit and x-rays or a CT scan. Good lawyer gets her to pay for all that and a bunch of other stuff. Ask me how I know. No don't, I really don't want to rehash my incident.

Thanks, all. I'm up and arround today. I called the ins co today and asked about my car, it still hasn't been looked at by the insurance company and body shop (its still at the wrecker yard).

Go to the doctor if you don't feel good or see physical improvement, or feel any stiffness that wasn't there before and it doesn't go away. sorry about your car.
PS I got rear ended a long time ago, and it wasn't bad, a little like this http://www.appletonsfunfairs.co.uk/DODGEM%20CARS.jpg
and I felt fine, but it was a city rear-end, so low speed. Use your own judgment ...
best of luck to you and your Yaris.

Please go see your doctor. No sense on your being "totaled" later.

I'm feeling much better after the long weekend to rest. I just called the body shop and their "preliminary" estimate for two bumpers and a grill is $2,500. I told him I couldn't believe with as hard as she hit me there isn't all kinds of damage underneath. The guy told me its a preliminary estimate that will be revised as things are pulled off and more is found wrong. >:( I think I'm going to talk to some other places before I sign this guy's contract. I would think that a through inviestigation would be done before ANY estimate is given.

Welp, just got back form the body shop and went over all the damage with the guy. And I must say that I am simply astonished by how little damage there actually is to my car. The lady that hit me, her car is completely totaled, no if, and's, or but's. The only things the body shop guy could offer as an explination are a) Her car pushed mine up in the air and transfered a lot of force pushing the whole car up into the air rather than into the body of the car, or b) it was an act of God. heh. It bent the inside of my wheel's rim causing the blowout, which I hope they check for suspenison damage after that, and the exhaust system was all bent down.
Now, for the BIG question. What do I do with my car after its repaired? I'm not sure I want to drive around in a car that's been in a wreck and "repaired". But I'm not sure I want say goodbye just yet. Do you think I'd ever get the $9,400 KBB says it's worth out of it now?

My car has been hit 3 times, and set fire to once. She still drive amazingly well, steering is tight, and I have no rattles or other odd problems (other than from the first repair they botched a 3" area on the door and said it was "preexisting" on a 5mo old car, :bs:) Total damages have been about $21,400 and my car is 5 years old with over 105k miles on it.
Yes they keep fixing it, but she's held up remarkably well. As long as the uni-body is OK and you get a good shop you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

My old echo stood up to quite a bit of abuse, was on her third set of front bumper, grille and headlight housing when I totaled her. She was totaled out because the last time snapped the lower control arm and the entire left side of the car was mangled. Those two things, plus the car being 8 years old, and the mileage, added up to more than 70% of the assessed value of the car for estimated repairs.

Yeah Toyota designed these cars pretty well to take a lot of damage before affecting the main body. Crash bars in the front and back to absorb a lot of energy yet be easily replaced. I'd say it would be a waste to total the car if the damage does not go so deep!

Just got the word today, my jellybean was totaled. :( It was surprisingly emotional clearing out my stuff from it. Looks like I'm in the market for a new car. Thanks everyone for your concerns/well wishes/prayers. I personally am still a little sore and back hurts a bit to twist... thinking about going to a MD to get PT.

And how are you now?
What about the car?

hollidays have been booked solid with family and job stuff :( I have not been able to go see a doc but I now definantly know that I need to. my neck is in a constant state of soreness and sometimes even outright pain.
Unfortunately no more jellybean. I'm sure its off to the crusher by now, or someone bought the salvage title on it. *sigh* No more yaris for me. I bought a Dodge Caliber on mondy under pressure from the insurance company to return the rental. I don't love it like I loved my yaris, but it will get me by while I wait for the perfect replacement to come along. :)

Calibers are nice. I had a friend who had a caliber. She was crazy, but I liked the car.

Welp, I'm back, heh. I've been on a long road that brought me from a totalled 2007 Yaris 3door to a 2007 Dodge Caliber, then to a fully decked out loaded 2LT 2011 Chevy Aveo5 w 20k miles, and ending last Saturday with me trading that Aveo5 even swap at a dealership for a Toyota Certified Used 2009 Toyota 3door Yaris with 40k miles. I just could not find anything I was as happy with driving as I was when I had my Yaris.
Yah, I know I took a monetary loss on the trade, but I'm happier with my car now than I have been since my original Yaris was totaled. I just feel like I'm back home again behind the wheel and I consider it a win-win for me and the dealership. Hehe
Only thing I wish this newer 2009 yaris had was remote keyless entry so I guess that's going to be my first mod! Yea! :-) Well, that and maybe the color. I have no idea what color it is. I'm color blind and it seems every person I ask what color it is I get a different answer. I've gotten a "Merlot", and a bronze, a "brown-red", a brick red, I got a burgundy, I got a maroon, I got a "purpleish red" earlier today when it was cloudy. Seems no one can tell me what color it is. Blue would have been a lot easier to describe to other family members afar. lol
I'm glad I'm back, and glad to see some of the same old gang are still here.

I know you said you are color blind towards this shade of color, but I would think it would look the same on a computer screen as in person, no? Does it appear to be the same as this?

PS> Heres a mod (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=CkJpn_oej7Y)I did to my Aveo. Thinking about doing the same to the Yaris but would need to find a double DIN opening. Another thing on the to-do list. :)

No problem.
Wait, did your LB come with an integrated radio, which is why you can't do the tablet mod right away?

The Nexus 7 fits perfectly in a Double DIN opening. Unfortunately, my Yaris, like my old 07 yaris has a smaller than double DIN opening for the stock stereo. I think there are kits that will replace that part of the dash with a piece that has a double DIN opening. I'll have to get one of those when I can afford it, heh.
Carmine Red is a wonderful color. Congrats on the new Yaris. I kind of think of it as aftermath of a bloodbath red. The bodies have been removed but the blood isn't quite dry.

I thought all Yarii came with either an integrated HU or a double DIN sized HU???

It looks slightly skinnier side to side and way shorter than a double din, but taller than a single din.

Actually the opening is 200mm wide, which is 20mm wider than double DIN and it is double DIN height, which is why installing a double DIN radio only requires the trim pieces for the sides.

Ahh, thanks Scott, must just be my crappy eyes or an optical illusion, heh. The opening in my Aveo was perfect sized for the nexus 7. I may have some fiddling to do to get it to work in the Yar.
