View Full Version : Remote key entry?
Hi all, we just bought a Yaris hatchback 2011. It has power locks (no power windows), but it doesn't have the remote to lock/unlock.
Is there a way to install some module that would give us remote locking/unlocking? If so, any DIY and/or suggestion for parts?
Thanks!
I hate to reply to myself, but more digging provided the search terms I needed (I think). "remote keyless entry" is probably what I'm looking for.
I found a tutorial on this forum about installing a "valet 712" system (http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9565). On the other hand, I read a few things like this (http://www.ehow.com/how_7513529_install-keyless-entry-toyota-yaris.html). The latter seems to suggest all I need is to buy a remote and program it with the car. Is that so simple? No box to add like it's described for the "valet" system? I don't need an alarm or remote starter.
I just want the already powered locks to be controlled from a remote. Can someone enlighten me? Thanks!

Adding an aftermarket system will be cheaper, but you could also convert it to OEM keyless entry via the purchase of the Door Control Receiver and a key with the transmitter fob.
My 09 came the same way, and I added a keyless entry with remote starter. In the DIY section of the forum there's a sticky for my DIY for keyless entry with remote start.
I'll do some research. I didn't find your DIY (only DanQ's, which I was referring to in my second post).
I don't need the starter, so I thought it would be easier to find a DIY for just the remote keyless entry. Of course, OEM with original keys would be awesome, but I'm not sure where to get the parts.
Anyway, as it's already well-documented, I might go with the Valet 712T solution.
