Chipped rotor... FML.

So I managed to chip one of the rotors changing out my summer tires for my winters.


Seriously? Four year old rotors disintegrating on me?


Yay or nay on going back to Toyota rotors? (Do recall, I need these pronto, before I get pulled over... The lifted edge of the rotor is making a terrible knocking sound on the pads..)

The only reason I'm not totally pissed is the other passenger-side rotor is warped... Meaning I was going to have to replace both anyways... But I much prefer doing it on my own accord, not at 8AM tomorrow, right before heading to a burial...

I got some NAPA ones for a good price. I got a good deal on them, hopefully they hold up longer than four years this time. :biggrin:

I'm running a night trip tonight, plus it's raining out here. Going to have to wait until Monday! (No biggy, girly is giving me a ride in her VW Beetle... Yep there goes my man-card. :tongue:)

I honestly considered the BBK, but $1500 (plus a new set of wheels) is just out of my league at the moment, unfortunately. :thumbdown:)

four years = how many miles?

Average mileage for 4 years is 80000km or 45000 miles...given that that also includes. 3 or 4 winters with salt, etc I wouldn't say it was an entirely short life.

Cheapo aftermarket rotors are lucky to see two years of service time in our climate. The pads usually outlast the rotors now, which is why shops offer "lifetime" pads. Every year or two, they just have to pay to replace their warped rotors and service the calipers. *sigh* Tis my never ending frustration at work.

I use OEM toyota rotors and they have been good for almost three years, and I'm on my third set of pads. Just service them once a year :)
