Depends if you are doing a ported or sealed box. Sealed box gives better sound quality , but less output unless you up the wattage alot.

But I have an 8" and it thumps good. Although I wish I had a 12 at time to hit the very lowest notes well.

im building the box myself and im not very experienced. i think im going to do a sealed box. 12 inch subwoofers should have at least a 1.5 cubic feet of air right? so i need a design with about three cubic feet of air. so i was thinking 14 x 28 x 14.

Heres one place to start , but I'm sure there are many more. I also heard that silicone sealant is not the best to use because the fumes can jack with cone?

lots of 12 inch subs are OK with 1 cubic foot per sub (28.3 litres).. you can try 2 cubic feet for two
What subs do you plan to use?

Here's something to think about...
Sealed enclosures are the most forgiving with variance of construction. They give the best overall performance with frequency response vs output.
Now, what subs are you using? IDC what it is, I just want to find you exact measurements for a baseline so we can get creative.
or you can use the freeair subs to save your trunk

those speakers look quite good in terms of the build quality.. I am a bit concerned that it is impossible to find specs (actually tried to find them).. there is still a chance they would sound ok in a closed box

yes, you can use plywood.. it is better in terms of weight (most (hardwood) plywood weights less than mdf).. some people believe subs sound better in mdf cabinets .. plywood still works OK
btw, why don't you want to buy the finished cabinet ? standard enclosures are quite cheap
yes, normally subs are accompanied by the specs.. this one seems to be the "ultimate no-name" type.. I would not be surprised if no specs are found in the box.. you may try to contact the seller on this

when you removed the stock head unit did you happen to see any of the hook up ports needed for an amp/subs? also, im still stuck on what materials to use? i have plywood or i could go buy some mdf. question is.. is it worth buying particle board over plywood that i already have in the garage?

the box/cabinet should be rigid and strong.. and yes.. no major air leaks / airtight overall .. I normally leave a small hole somewhere .. (temperature / pressure inside and outside the box issue)

TOLMACH

Sure it can.. just a nice small nice hole like 3 mm in diameter

and that should be small enough to not harm the speakers?

does the box have to have divided chambers inside the box? or can the two woofers just share the one compartment?
