Hello,

Less than 12 hours after purchase of my 5 door SE, I am already to start modding! After some Google-ing, I see that Eibach is looking for owners in the CA area for prototyping springs. Wish I lived there, will someone PLEASE get their '12 over there to them??!

CAI-I have added them to cars in the past-a great bolt on mod for a few extra HP's. I had issues with the one I had on my 2007 Matrix and had to install a Greddy Blue for MAF tweaking. It was a headache and I will be looking for a better solution for the Yaris-hopefully one that does not throw the air-fuel mix way out of spec.

I imagine that a header for a 2007-2011 might just fit. Anyone brave enough to try? I might take a shot at it with a DC Sports THC4407. Any thoughts on this?

I know that the one painful thing about early adopting is waiting for these parts to be manufactured.

Looking forward to thoughts and ideas.

No need, the old stuff fits. Other than the sheet metal the only difference we have found so far is the ECU.

SWEET! I love interchangeable parts! :headbang:

I still wonder about routing with a CAI... or is a SRI a better bet?

Thanks!

We have the standard K&N setup on our 2012. Now, I did not use the heat shield - we never have because we typically go for a smaller battery and relocated it, and the heat shield is less effective with the battery gone - so I can't say if it would need to be trimmed to fit under the hood, but the rest of the system works perfect.

I test drove a 2012 and spent some time poking around under the hood. Based on what I saw, I believe that 06-11 engine related mods (Blitz supercharger, intakes, exhaust manifolds, etc.) will work without issue. I also have the EWDs and have found that many electrical system mods (like adding cruise control) are the same as for the 06-11.

So you think we can do the $40 cruise control mod on the 12's

Reading here that only the body has changed on the 2012 yaris, is it OK to assume that an older model trailer hitch would fit the new model?
I too am still awaiting my 2012 3 door manual black Yaris. This Wed. is scheduled as delivery day.

Blitz and Power Enterprise both already have piggy-back setups for the 2012 cars in Japan. PE show the 2012+ SC kit as shipping and the Blitz one shows as to be released soon.

I also have the EWDs and have found that many electrical system mods (like adding cruise control) are the same as for the 06-11.

I just put an AFE CAI on my SE. Went several days without issue. I hit the 1K mile mark and decided to get on it a bit for the first time and almost instantly I got a CEL with code P0101 which is pretty generic. It looks like the MAF is angry with all that air coming at it. I will answer some questions that anyone with experience might have: This was the first time since the car was purchased that I took the engine over 4,500 RPM. Yes, I was EXTREMELY careful with I pulled the MAF. No there is no oil on it from the filter. I am about 5,200 feet ASL. I did have a similar problem with my 2007 Matrix-it would throw a code (can't remember the number) for running lean. That seems to not be the case here. Yes, the MAF is facing the right direction.

With that...anyone out there with a CAI had their Yaris throw CEL's with similar codes?

I really was hoping that it would be an easy mod. I have a OBDII reader and I have reset the code. I will keep it below 4,000 RPM for the next few days and see if it comes back. I have put about 100 miles on the car since the installation.

Thanks!

It comes with 16" wheels so there should be no issues going to a smaller wheel unless you mount big balloon tires on the wheels. Not sure why you would want to down-size them though.

That only shuts it off temporarily, once you hit 30mph (if my memory serves me) it automatically turns back on. :frown:

If you want it to stay off you need to put the car in test mode with the secret handshake.

Now that I have the car in my possession, a short press disables traction control, while a long press disables both traction and stability control. Note that you're only capable of doing either when stopped. The car remains in either condition until shut off or if the button is pushed.

you could do the secret handshake.... or! at a complete stop you can hold the traction control button down for 3-5 seconds and it kills traction control and stability control. works in Canadian models!

Just browsed in tanabe's r&d section today and saw that they have some pictures up of the sway bars, tower bars, and under braces for the 3rd gens. And from the looks of it the tanabe medallion touring exhaust from the 2nd gen should fit the 3rd ones as well. You should call them though to confirm.

Does it appear that the exhaust tip exits in the same place between the 2nd and 3rd gen? I want to order the Tanabe Touring exhaust, but it appears the exit point could be just slightly more outboard on the 2nd gen. Dunno. I've been looking closely at the pics and read your remarks on fitment. The only concern I have is that the SE/RS rear bumper has the fake splitter at the bottom wheras the L/LE does not.

Thanks for the reply, and the photo of your exhaust! The center exit looks damn cool and right at home on your car.

I will shoot Garm an email about the Tanabe setup, hopefully he can help. Back in the day I had the Touring Medalion on my '89 Civic Si hatch. Great sound and excellent fit. My dilemma is that I want something that looks and sounds mature. Definitely don't want anything that sounds fartastic.

Garm also sells the exhaust on my car. I chose it over the Tanabe because I like centered twin tips more than a large single offset tip. But that's just a personal preference. They're both excellent exhausts.

Were I sure the current Tanabe Touring p/n would fit my '12, it would be on the way.

In other news my JDM RS side skirts came in today!

The part numbers were good for the US ordering system but none of the PDC's showed them in stock. After buring a favor in the parts department they made some calls and were able to get them somewhat quickly. Just for fun, we tried all the color codes and all but the "Gin Buck" were available for order. They came already painted with the light grey rubber border already installed. Only extra items were the white screw plugs for the front fender hardware, couple screws and grommets. Only bad part was the stomach burning $917 for the lot... and thats at 10% over dealer cost. Yikes!

Same here. Our driving is all between 2,000 and 3,000 rpm even on the freeway in 5th gear. So I got a 4-2-1 header that helps that range the most. (Micro Image has the lowest Weapon R price around. )

Thanks for the kind words gents! The EG and EM1 to the right were both massive balls of poo when purchased.. Honestly the EG was headed for the scrap yard before I rescued her. I find these cars and start to feel sorry for them, kinda like a lost dog or something.. My body and paint guy is in line for sainthood after those two.

I found it quite irritating that our Canadian friends get the skirts as standard and we Americanos get the shaft!! I'm feverishly working on trying to import a Modellista front lip, grille surround and headlight eyelids to complete the look. Must. Resist. Yahoo. Japan. Auctions!

To sorta keep the spirit of the new parts/mod theme of the thread, I received word today on the US spec armrest for Yaris. Should be available in fall and was told it would differ from the JDM setup that is nothing more than a storage box. It has a part number assigned, but of course shows no availability. Retail was like $247. I'll post up the part number tomorrow so you can get the pre-order on at your local Toyota d-ship. I'm hoping for storage plus padded cover for my lonely elbow..

Thanks for the info. on the center arm rest. Now I can stop looking and just wait, I hate waiting. The Toyota dealers have been no help, it didnt even have a part # when I was looking. I was going to order a JDM one but couldn't get a straight answer about fitting for the American Yaris.

i know that practically everything from the previous gen fits, but small things like this make me anxious, would anyone know for sure if this hub spacer fits? http://shop.microimageonline.com/Rear-Hub-Spacers-PGHS1.htm

Part number for the US spec armrest is:

PT413-52120

It's showing a MSRP of $209 without installation charge. Still no update as to the contruction of this item. We were told that it would be different than the JDM unit which has no padded elbow rest. I've been checking it weekly to see if it pops a ship date. So far the tentative eta is late fall.

Installed! so this evened out the power band immensely the car actually has low end torque, as in 1500rpm, i usually only drive the car around 15-2000rpm and it works great, mid range feels improved. high end? the car still feels slow but I'm sure its helped. the piece is beautiful and fits awesome, no problems with install. the ceramic coating does keep the head down. i highly recommend this from microimage!

those firestone bags, are you just using them for when you load the car? i have been debating lowering and then using those in the rear to maintain height. take some detailed pics of install please!

Looking good man. You make me want a new Yaris bad. I remember modding my first Civic almost every weekend for almost 8 months. The joys of livng at home and working a good job! Sometimes I miss the days of my youth, Lol...

How do I make the pics for all to see ?

Yes the back end is already starting to sag , with the undercoating, 2 Alpine 500 watt amps and a Alpine 12'' sub in a 1 cu. box in the back more about that stuff to come later.

I haven't even put a cooler or two duffel bags in the back for a road trip. So yes I will be using them to keep the car level no matter what the load. I have used them in 4 other vehicles and loved the control of the suspension.

I will be using a lift for the install just to get some good pics.

They are a bear to get into our tiny springs. I installed a set on Crashy to keep her tail up when I fill her dump bed with topsoil. I think every knuckle was bleeding by the time I finished.

To start no pics yet. just put everything on yesterday. At work posting now.

1, K&N Typoon air cleaner went on. Very easy took about 1/2hr. sounds great pulling from 1500rpm to 4000rpm roaring, thats as high as I have taken the SE so far. It lowered the RPM doing 70mph by 300 to 400rpms, have to check notes.

2, TRD rear bar took about 20min. only got to test a little. Did hit a few exit and entrance ramps it does sit much flatter in the corners, picked up 15 mph in the first try, need more testing:thumbup:

3, coil rite air bags went in 1/2 hr, no bloody knuckles:w00t:, rides great, work great plenty of lift left for full loads. SE sitting level again.

4, Exhaust did not fit. The tail pipe exited almost 3 in. to the right, center of tip and center of AD exhaust cut out.

I guess I'll just have to wait for an exhaust for the SE

Curious, which exhaust is that? It looks like the Tanabe from the side, but I can't tell.

I bought the TRD exhaust and other than the tip being small and a little low, it is perfectly centered in the OEM cutout. It also has a nice burble at idle and mature note when accelerating. Very little increase in cabin noise at highway speeds was a nice surprize.

It was the A'pex-i World Sport 2 Hybrid Megaphone Exhaust, really a sweet looking exhaust. I went with it just because of the rolled tip edge.

So there was no way to move the hangars around to get it centered? Three inches is quite a bit though.

By chance, did you take a pic of it on the car before you removed it?

No the round part of the exhaust ( canister) was already right next to the heat shield, which is right next to the under body of the car. So there was no way to alter it and push it over. No pics. was a lil po (disapointed) at the time. I wish I would have taken a pic of the 2 exhausts next to each other, after thought, then you would have seen why it wouldn't fit. The meg. exhaust exits straight back from the hangers and the stock SE exits to the left of the hangers.. I really thought all I would have to do was alter it by bringing it up, but that wasn't the case.

Was the TRD tip smaller then the stock SE tip ? Did you alter to lift it up ?

No, I left it where it is. Honestly I think the TRD tip is actually smaller than the stock SE. Fail.

I really want to try the Tanabe to see where it exits.

Got a price quote on the Fujitsubo, $1400 seems somewhat dear..

Just wondering if anyone has an opinion on this system, or the place that sells it?
