Currently the fuel guage is stuck reading half a tank. We've changed the fuel sender but the problem is still there. It looks like the tank has had a bang from the underneath so I know that a new tank is needed. Hooked up though the guage still isn't working?
Any ideas would be much appreciated.

The instrument cluster reads the sender. It takes a little bit of time to show a change in level, as the raw data from the sender flips around significantly as the fuel sloshes in the tank.
It may be that the cluster has the issue, as opposed to the sender itself. What year is your 1.3, as I can tell you which wire in the cluster to measure the voltage on to see if the raw data is correctly coming into the cluster?

Thanks for your help

OK. For 2001 there are two types of clusters:
If you have the analog meter style cluster, then the fuel sender comes into pin 12 (violet wire) of connector C12 (the smaller of the two connectors).
If you have the digital cluster, then the fuel sender comes into pin 18 (violet) of connector C15 (the 22 pin connector that has two rows of pins).
On either style, if you measure the voltage on that pin in reference to chassis ground, the voltage will change instantly as the fuel level does. If the sender is in the tank, having someone rock the car, while you are measuring will easily show a significant change in level, so you can tell if the sender is getting to the cluster.
