Which Fuse To Pull...

I want to disconnect the AC for winter use. But which fuse does one pull? There are like 3 in the engine compartment box and a 7.5 amp in the big panel in the interior.

Just where is that big interior panel? Under the dash?

If you pull the 7.5A one in the under the bottom of the dash panel, you will kill the AC ECU, but that will also prevent the rear window defogger and PTC heater from working.

The fuses under the hood are for the blower motor and the PTC heater.

So, to kill the AC for the winter and still have everything else work you would either have pull the connector from the compressor (and somehow seal both ends from the weather) or disconnect the green wire in pin 7 of the 16 pin connector on the AC ECU. That pin is the output to the AC compressor clutch.

Ah thanks. I was all set to go willy nilly pulling fuses but thought I should find out what everything did first.

So the mod to disconnect the defroast from the ac is really the best bet if you want everything to function.

I have pulled the 7.5A fuse under the dash and my rear window defogger still works. But the button for the rear window defogger doesn't light up when the defogger is turned on.

Huh the manual just says AC for all three under the hood.

Well, they are all for portions of the air conditioning system. And, that's correct above that the rear window defogger will work, but will lose its indicator.

why don't you just not use the A/C in the winter?

i mean if it's really gas savings you're after wouldn't removing the belt from the compressor be the best way to go? less drag on the motor.

Of course you realize, captain slow, that the car has a single serpentine belt from crank, to alternator, to a/c compressor, don't you?

I have become a 7.5 amp fuse puller and and much happier for it.

Laast night i didnt plug the block heater in and this morning i will see how far the car goes before the cool engine light goes out.

And now there will be no AC to spoil things...

Hmm I wonder could they market a Yaris option optimized for fuel eficiency?

I found an easy mod on a Tacoma forum that allowed one to disable the "AC on when defrost is on" by pulling a wire from a wire harness plug beneath the dash. I did it and it worked great. If I wanted to run the AC with the defrost, I could do it manually.

I no longer have my '07 Tacoma, but I wonder if the internal wiring for it is similar to the Yaris?

No. I have a 2011 Tacoma and am familiar with that mod. On the Yaris the linking is done within the knob, so you have to disassemble to knob to do it.
