Forgive me if this has been asked before and if you would kindly point me in the right direction if it has but...
I still have in my possession an '07 3 door Yaris and one day about six months ago I walk out the front door to run some errands and I see a rather large crack running up the window and making it's way to the right hand side in a heart shaped pattern. The car had not been driven for three days prior and hadn't been on the freeway (to be hit with a rock or what not) in well over a week. It was a sudden and unexpected crack!
What I was wondering is if the older models had issues with developing stress cracks in the windshields? Can I take it to Toyota to get it fixed if it is a manufacturing problem rather than me spending a ton to get a new one?

If the crack started at the bottom edge and ran up the windshield it may have been due to a chip along the edge that has been there since installation and it finally ran due to the body flexing from the expansion and contraction of the sheet metal.

You may not need to spend a ton of cash getting it fixed. Check your insurance policy. Under my insurance policy, glass replacement is free, no deductible. Your policy might be similar.

My 2011 Sienna van had the same problem. I had just bought it and my wife was driving it to her home town when a crack started. It started under the windshield and then went straight up. Since it was brand new and there was a history of the same problem developing in other brand new vans, a dealer near my house (not the dealer I bought it from) replaced it under the warranty.
Had something to do with the location of the pillars and the way the windshield was laying on the pillar mounts. Might be something similar in your case, but you could always ask a dealer to look at it and ask if Toyota would replace it.
If not, call one of those windshield repair places that come to your house to change out the windshield. They are low in cost now and they can change it in under an hour.
Good luck!
