View Full Version : Shift Knob Options for freezing hands!

Alright so its getting cold outside, my metal shift knob is freezing cold!!!

I can't stand it anymore so I tried finding a solution.. I've come across a few plastic knobs but they weren't weighted...

Stumbled on a half aluminum, half Derlin shift knob that is actually weighted and looks pretty sweet!

http://www.twmshiftknobs.com/shiftknobs/hybrid-phantom.html

My lucky day that they are actually hosting a group buy on some other forums with this shift knob.

Email them for some more info and how to participate!

I use an unweighted delrin knob, no issues with shifting.

get an automatic. haha. kidding. i got rid of my weighted shifter cause it was too hot or too cold. that one looks sweet, but I personally would look for a cheaper knock off.

I like this OEM replacement. $37 from Toyota. Cold day in hell before I shell out $150 for a knob. It's the weighted knob from a 2011 Scion xB. Meant to make a thread about it a few weeks ago but forgot.

I think it's awesome. It's esentially a nicer chrome and metal version of the knob that comes stock with '09+ Yarii. Screwed the old knob off, screwed this one on. Perfect compatibility.

Not too cold in winter, but I don't know about heat yet. It hasn't been 100+F out yet, but summer time will definitely put it to the test.

Yeah, they're called Shifties (http://www.wiggyshifties.com/). Pretty clever little things.

Garm has Delrin knobs and they are great in summer and winter. Also doctorisotope.com makes them as well in several sizes and shapes and weights.

You should be able to go to any Toyota dealer and request a 'shift knob for '11 xB' and they'll be able to get it. It might take a day or two, but just because it's not sitting on a shelf in the parts area doesn't mean they can't get it.

Part numbers are pretty easy to look up if you know where to look (toyotapartszone.com, villagetoyotaparts.com, toyodiy.com) and spend some time learning how the parts diagrams are organized.

3 minutes on toyotapartszone came up with 33504-12300-B1 as being on both the xB and Matrix. There are 2 options available, so be sure to specify that you want the "special edition" or "dark grey trim" version. The stock non-ball one is part# 33504-12430-B0 (I think).

*edit* now I'm running in circles trying to find pics of them...

Here's the knob in the '09-ish Matrix, looks an awful lot like the one above:
http://www.ridelust.com/wp-content/uploads/2009-toyota-matrix-interior1-500x336.jpg

Here's the stock non-ball type, still not sure of part#, but probably the -B0:

Yeah. 33504-12300-B1 (Knob Sub-Assy, shift) is the part number on my bag. I had to special order it at the dealer. I thought it was only on the xB Series 3.0 release, but it turned out that it was on all xBs, as a base model on their lot also had the same knob as the Series 3.0 that I initially saw the knob on.

I didn't know it was on the Matrix as well. Be careful, because if you order it from a Corolla instead of a Matrix, you'll get the flat black rubber one that the Yaris came with as well. The chrome/metal one that I posted above is apparently from xBs and Matrixs, from what we've found so far.

Am I the only one who has the sense to NOT include all of the original images in a reply? Seriously. You're making a one line comment that is NOT dependent on seeing the pictures again. If you were highlighting or clarifying something in one of them, I could see the sense in including that then, but otherwise you're just wasting space.

^ No problem.

You should be able to find it from a Toyota EU dealer. I don't know if the parts numbers match, but if you have a hard time finding one, let me know. If I can't, somebody here in the states should be able to get a hold of one for you. They aren't exactly rare as every manual xB and Matrix has them.

I tried my dealer here and they said it would cost over €70 to send to ireland. Most of that is tax. Any ideas?

SAV912
02-26-2012, 01:39 AM
Oh wow. That's almost $94, or almost $60 in tax and shipping versus what I paid. I'm going by the dealer on Monday actually to pick up some other things. I'll see if I can get a price quote from them but I don't imagine it's strayed too far from what I and others in this thread have paid.

Even if you buy one here, and send it to him, it's still possible that he will have to pay additional VAT or import duty. The USPS has some rather vague and bureaucratic information about the UK and Northern Ireland postal policy (http://pe.usps.com/text/imm/fh_014.htm). The list of prohibited and restricted items for Ireland (http://pe.usps.com/text/imm/il_006.htm) is much sillier, but doesn't really specify anything about gifts.

Yup - I have one of Garm's black delrin shifter-knobs,. and had to make a spacer since the 07 and 09 shafts are different...

Wouldn't take much to "slim down" a delrin knob, and turn a woodie to glue over it.

True, its crazy money just to ship it over, stupid government rules. Thanks will be interesting to see what price they give you!

My other option was to root for one from a scrapyard somewhere. Even ebay has crazy prices up for the knob.
