Can I downsize to a 14" for winter?

I have 15" stocks but want winters from tirerack with steel rims. they dont have 15" steelies so can I downsize to the 14"? will I have any issues?

yes, 14" steelies with 175-65-14 or 185-60-14 is ideal (something narrow)

14" steelies were stock on my yaris....regardless of year, 14's fit over the calipers...

14's also work on the Yaris Sedan, which comes only with 15's from the factory.
I use Echo 14's with winter boots.

you won't have issues, mileage will drop a bit

your speedo -will-indicate something like 80 when you
are actually going 75 or 76

you will notice higher engine revs all around town and unless
you can offset the speedo or use a GPS or scangauge, you can only
guess your actual speed.

I was disappointed when we got our winter tires on steelies and was told they couldn't find 15 " ones like the originals.
So, every six months...I have to retrain my brain from the actual speed ...to adding 5 mph in winter.....to know how fast I am going.
But....
The wife? She drives faster than I would like her too, so I don't remind her to compensate, so in a 55 zone she thinks she is really going 65...and it is only 60 or so.
Worth the extra thinking as the snow tires were the saving grace of winter driving up here. More bite and grip!
But honestly, I wish my speedometer was telling me like it really is. A gps works too.

Yes, I should have dealt with that further and tried to find them. We live
in the sticks and put up with "less" in many ways.
But the GPS does confirm that the speedometer saying 60 mph is really
about 55 mph.

I was just glad to see someone else in the beginning of this thread had the same issue. It might have had to do something with the steelies? Not sure...as it is now our 4th winter on them......Graspic 2's. Great tire though.:thumbup:

Never assume mechanics know it all...

14" to 15" shouldn't matter as long as the overall diameter of the tire is the same....

Do you know how to read your tire size?
