Yaris? Its probably based off the current Yaris platform obviously modified as the previous gen xB and xA were sharing platforms. This is the new xD the replacement for the xA. Looks good...I wonder what the "performance" is on these things, I know not a sports car but I'm talking daily use and fuel economy. Thanks for the links.

I guess for the Scion platform, boxy generally equates to "cool".

Looks like a rounded out xB.. I prefer the boxyness of the xB more.

Clearly, they're trying to trade on the perceived cool of the xB design, since it ended up being (against Toyota's expectations) the bigger hit of the first two Scions in America, but this design feels like it missed the mark, like it was designed by people who didn't really understand why people liked the xB, but were determiend to lift superficial elements from it anyway.

And yes, it looks a little like a Caliber. I actually like the looks of the Caliber more, though I would rather depend on Toyota's reliabilty record than Dodge's for my daily driver...

reminds me of the CX-7 from the front

and the Versa from the rear 3/4 view

Ewwwwwwwww.

I'd gladly give up three tenths of a liter of displacement to not have to drive something that ugly.

I'm so glad I got rid of my ugly 06 xA before it became associated with the crap that has been displayed here.. I love my Yaris and I hate Scion and what they're producing. Ack.

You have to keep in mind that Scion is a niche' market, so obviously its not going to appeal to most but apparently quite a few as Scion is popular. Regarless of personal feelings from others I'm glad that Scion is doing well, it helps Toyota attract a younger generation that they need so they don't become the next Buick or Oldsmobile, sure there are middle aged people buying Scions and that won't stop but I'm sure the core demographic is on target. I like the designs, I like this gen xB better than the previous but as usual the JDM equivlant is better, the new xD I like, or warming up to it. I like the previous gen xA as it was a hatch and so the xD is too. I'm not trying to preach to anyone that they have to like Scion just stating what I feel. Personally I'm into quirky and off beat looks, its unique, sure may not "look good" or "pretty" but function over form. I guess that's why I like the off beat ECHO. Yes I do see some cars as ugly and it depends on how you want to look at it, ugly or unique or both! I know there are quite a few who see the ECHO as ugly, fine, what ever you're entitled to that, same goes with any other car. We all have our flavors. And to quote one of my favorite quotes is "Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one." I'll shut up now.

Scion is the "dare to be different" brand. Bravo for sticking to the mission I guess. :iono:

well...
before the unveiling...
all the press were saying,
it's the "world premiere" of all new xb, xd...
i didn't believe it...
now i do...
i checked the japanese toyota and daihatsu websites...
none of these new cars are there...
these new scions are first presented to us american...
it's unique to us... no where else in the world has it yet...

the new xb is not jdm bb... actually it's more like the scion t2b concept...
(chop roof... different headlights/bumper... camry engined...)

and the reason i called this thread... "yaris ts...?"
the xd is based on yaris... not much bigger than yaris,
but has the same engine as the yaris ts...
we probably won't get yaris ts afterall... but we have this xd...

In December we got a Yaris sedan which my wife quickly appropriated, leaving me with the dying Ford Contour. So off to shop for me. I looked at just about everything on the road in the subcompact range and it came down to the Yaris LB or an xA. I chose the xA although it was a real struggle to choose between the two. And I am glad I did, even now seeing the xD which clearly has vestiges of the xA, now looks similar to the Versa/FIT/Spectra5/Mazda3 . . .

Now, if the Yaris 4-door LB was available in the US, it would be another story. As it is, if I win the lottery, I've told my MIL that I'll buy her the 2-door liftback.

We like bubble lines!!

Seriously know (rrr.. i think I was a second ago) I don't like this Scions. I never have liked any Scion but (mildly) the tC. They just don't do it for me. Probably too JDM looking when i prefer European design (probably the reason I like the Yaris LB so much and not that fond of the Sedan. I still prefer over other sedans on the road, mind you)
