Hi
I received my new yaris sedan 2012 yesterday. My friends here tell me i should start engine and keep car on idle for 5-10 minutes, and should not drive above 80KmPH until reach 1000KM. But when i read the owner's manual, it does not say any such thing. Also I need some hint on the temperature warning (red) lamp and Cool (green) lamps.

Thanks.

The speed thing I never heard of.

For the start up, I would just turn on and go, but just dont gun it. Drive slow until it warms up. Sitting and waiting for the car to warm wastes gas.

I try my best to let my cars idle for 5 minutes or so before I leave if it's cold outside(cold for san Diego), under warmer conditions I will wait for the oil pressure to hit normal or the idle to come down before I go.

unless you're talking about the new car break-in period...really these new cars don't need to be warmed up IMO.. like chocobo said, just turn on and go, but just dont gun it. The automatic transmission holds higher revs when its cold anyways to warm up the engine quicker.

I work graveyard shift just 1 block away from the highway and its freezing (for CA) and never wait for it to warm up when heading home, just go right on the highway with the cold temp light on.. problem free since '08.

i know the autos with the cold light wont rev past 4000rpm, dealer told me not to go over 120kph untill 1600km. its -30 and tomorrow morning is -35. i plug it in every morning and let it idle for 5 mins.

Thanks guys for the replies.
Guys here are making crazy, they say not to speed beyond 80kph until 1000km. And not to switch AC too. Here its between 3-7 celcius (cold). I keep it idle until the Temp Cold light (green) is goes off. Then make my move.

Just for quick verification, I could speed upto 100kph right?
