View Full Version : I like symmetry...

I am picking up a new '12 Yaris 3-door tomorrow, and would like some help replacing my hubcaps and steelies.

Here is what I would like, friends: I want a set of wheels that I can just bolt onto my Yaris with no hassles. No rubbing, no low-profile tire sizes, none of that. I want a set of alloys of the exact dimensions as the stock steelies, same offset, all of that. I don't want to deal with spacers or any other work other than ordering them, and bolting them on and driving the car for the next 10 years. I don't want fragile wheels that will fracture just commuting year-round (this car's primary use).

I like symmetrical wheels, four lugs, four spokes. Four lugs, eight spokes, aligned the same on all four "sides" as you view the wheel.

I am not a fan of very "loud" chrome wheels. But an anodized gold, grey, silver...looks fantastic to my eyes.

I like subtle beauty.

Here are some examples of what I like:

Borbet LV4 (http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/WheelCloseUpServlet?target=runWheelSearch&autoMake=Toyota&autoModel=Yaris+3-Door&autoYear=2012&autoModClar=L&initialPartNumber=LV4655401004A&i1_Qty=4&wheelMake=Borbet&wheelModel=LV4&wheelFinish=Anthracite+Painted&wheelFinish=Anthracite+Painted&showRear=no)

Stance Emotion Series (http://www.wheelfire.com/scontent/WheelDetails.cfm?IDNumber=emotion%206%20&SKU=5892&CheckFit=1)

TSW Trackstar 4 (http://www.wheelfire.com/scontent/WheelDetails.cfm?IDNumber=trackstar&SKU=2840&TireIDNumber=H405&TireSKU=77&VehicleMakeFinal=Toyota&VehicleYearFinal=2011&VehicleModelFinal=Yaris&VehicleOption=Standard)

I gratefully appreciate any and all help you can provide, my friends.

If you want something with the same fitment as stock, that 15x8 stance wheel of unknown offset is not what you want. Out of the other two choices I like the borbet more; looks better, doesn't have a red stripe, and fits the symmetrical theme better with a single set of bolt holes rather than the dual pattern on the tsw wheel. Tirerack is a better choice as well.

Hmmm...So those Borbets will just bolt right on? I don't need anything else?

Forgive all the questions, I know very little about wheel and tire measurements.

Stance will rub.

TSW or Borbet will bolt right on, no rubbing, no other items required besides "tuner lugs" to fit in the smaller lug holes on the wheel. 12x1.5mm is what thread pitch you need of these. Can pick them up at your local auto parts store or eBay, or some wheel and tire sites will have them packaged as an "installation kit."

They may try to sell you hubcentric rings, may as well just get them. If they do not try to give you these, then there is no need for them as long as you tighten your lugs diagonally when installing.

For example...

First off, I know this isn't help per say, but man, I like the way you do business!

Something to consider is finding some OEM alloys. I bought a set last year and they pretty much met all of your requirements (other than being symmetrical!). I like 'em! Stock size, no rubbing, simple, built to last, not flashy, etc...

I just got some coming for my 2010 HB.

+ MI is awesome to work with and they are cheap enough to play with and not worry if you break them.

Those are gorgeous, but if I were using OEM wheels, I would want to keep it in the Toyoda family.

Thank you! The Borbet's are in the running. That says a lot because I hate most aftermarket alloys. But those Borbets are sweeeeeeet.

Thank you very much. I briefly considered these (http://www.toyota-parts.com/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=-312), but they are not truly symmetrical, so the love is now lost.

Those are indeed gorgeous, especially in the gun metal. However, I would want them with only four "branches", not five; they are not symmetrical. I like visual balance, and I know four spoke wheels are about as popular as STD tests in a whore house, but if I'm dropping $500+ on something...it has to be my way.

Or I'll just "survive" with the stock steelies and hubcaps.

Awesome link, thanks! So far, looks like the Borbets are the only set I can stomach.

Oh, these may not fit your "symmetric" criteria, but they are OEM alloys. I ordered them from a Toyota MR2, you just need to purchase the lug nuts for an MR2 or 2000+ Celica. Everything else is a perfect fit, including the hub ring. The offset is OEM, so with my DF210's and the ROUGH Michigan roads, there is NO rubbing!

We have 17" OZ wheels for our summer set. They are 8 spoke, and look pretty good. Don't think I have any pics of the m on the car, but here's the link (http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/WheelCloseUpServlet?target=runWheelSearch&initialPartNumber=W8503820154BMF&wheelMake=O.Z.&wheelModel=Lounge+8&wheelFinish=Machined+w%2FBlack+Accent&showRear=no&autoMake=Toyota&autoModel=Yaris+Hatchback&autoYear=2008&autoModClar=&filterFinish=All&filterSize=17&filterBrand=O.Z.&filterSpecial=false&filterNew=All&filterWeight=All&sort=Brand)

After reading this thread, I realize that there aren't that many truly "symmetrical" wheels out there. thepartsmancometh's suggestion (http://yarisworld.com/forums/showpost.php?p=624616&postcount=13) seems like the only ones that meet the bill so far...

Good luck with your search.

I can point you at quite a few more symmetric wheels, those are not the only choices. (818) 610-3635.

I was busy watching the Niners suck.

The bronze are great! I was all set on black, but hesitated when i saw the bronze, but glad I stuck with black. Tinted the windows yesterday, badges are back on and painted black (will post pictures once it stops raining for two minutes). They're great wheels, I love them.

Awesome! Am actual improvement in unsprung weight--all while still using stock rubber, while still being affordable and symmetrical!

Is there a way I can circumvent the TPMS without hacking up my wiring harness? Can I install the TPMS's on these Konigs?

Enkei RPF1's, 15x7. Light weight (9.5 pounds), great fit and come in various colours.

But NOT symmetrical! Have you read this thread, my friend?

Those are my friend's rims. I'm not sure which Axis rims those are, but after a little Google search, I think they're the Axis Maglite. I'm sure you can use the stock rubber on those (if your car came with 15's).

Scratch that, I don't see any 4-spoke wheels in their line up. Best bet is either CL or find another 4-spoke wheel. How about the Rota Auto-X (in 15x6.5, 4x100, +40 offset)

Axis Maglites are discontinued but are pretty common to find used.

Also, Work Equip 01 or Work Equip 01 replica's are pretty similar.

If you ask Jeff @ Micro Image he can locate similar wheels for you and beat anyone else's advertised price.

The Maglites don't have a lip, the Racer X has a little lip on it. That's the main difference between the two.

A shame those Axis rims were discontinued, they were perfect for me. I won't risk used rims on my car, however.

I'd recommend emailing a link to this thread to Jeff at Micro Image -- sales.microimage@gmail.com -- he knows his wheels and will help you find exactly what you are looking for. There may be a brand new version of a similar Axis-style wheel that he can get for you.

He was helping me look for wheels a little while back and was extremely helpful.
