I've long thought about doing the widened steelie thing. Seriously looked into it on my xB back in 2003-2004, but knew to pull it off, you needed to be slammed.
Thought about it again in my Yaris, which could be slammed on my coilovers, but didn't want the constant rubbing, since I DD my car.
The link to the pic I posted is the only Yaris I've seen with widened steelies. I love the look of them on VWs, for example ...

If the diamond's weren't heavy, I'd probably go with them. I like the look.
The black Yaris with the 15x10's is just silly lol

^^ yeah , I'm running 15x9 +30 no rubbing . 15x10 is just a little to wide without overflares or really worked fenders

Yeah, 15x9+30 with a little camper is pretty much as aggressive as you can go without too much fender work.
Id love to do a 16x10+30 or something like that.
There is TONS of inner clearance on the Yaris.
I have 16x8+0 which is about 1/2" farther out the the 15x9+30 and i would recommend it to anyone if they plan on doing any kinda low. Ha

Doing widened steelies is very tempting. However, I don't want to do anything too crazy as the Yaris is a daily driver. Maybe a mild 14x7 +25 with a 195/60/14. I just wouldn't want tons of rubbing. A 15x8 +30 might look good, too.
Just not 100% sure how to go about it. Keep crawling the VW forums or contact Stockton Wheel, I suppose.

What would be the advantage of having a rim that is wider than the tire??? What about the weight penalty???

It is of my belief that the reason for the narrower tire is so the setup fits better under the fenders. And steel wheels do weigh a lot. The widened steelie thing looks awesome, IMHO, but it isn't weight-saving setup or, arguably, a performance setup (ditto that with the hellaflush thing). *puts flame suit on*

no need for a flamesuit, no one who does the hellaflush thing would ever say it does anything but hurt performance and makes suspension components break faster.
