Ever hear one of those songs that is just so great or moving you can't get it out of your noggin?
Well, I've had three in the past week, so I figured what the hell... lets start a thread. Old or new, if there is a song you just discovered that is killing you, no matter what the genre... throw it in here.
If you're like me and listen to pretty much everything, before you know it you'll have an awesome playlist of off-the-beaten-path music!
If you can find a link to the song or an applicable myspace, youtube or whatever, throw it in here too.
Sly and the Family Stone - Wanna Take You Higher
http://youtube.com/results?search_query=sly+stone+higher (great videos here, also there is a live version on the famed Woodstock documentary)
Nonpoint - Alive and Kicking
http://www.myspace.com/nonpoint
Dustin Kensrue - I Believe
http://myspace.com/dustinkensrue
Bring 'em on, I'll be listening to every one.

Dir en Grey - DRAIN AWAY
They don't sound nearly as mean (or silly) as they look:

BTW, for those who are confused as to why they look like gothic zombies, this band and many others in Japan follow a popular visual theme called "Visual Kei".

John, YES! :headbang: That Hyde song is pretty damn good. Dir en Grey is good too, but that dude can't sing worth a poop. Its OK, I can't either.
Learning about visual kei was cool too... basically the Japanese glam rock movement! Crazy!
Now I'm watching my first X Japan performance. Their drummer is sick!

FUGGEN EH!
ROCK ON BROTHA!
I've been very disenchanted with English music in recent years, save for a few bands that are very much pop rock rather than traditional rock.
I fell in love with a lot of the indie bands coming out of the US and Europe the last few years and it reminded me of what X-Japan sounded like during their prime.
That brought me back to J-Rock and I discovered a bunch of bands that produced some great music.
if you're interested about J-Rock, check out the following bands:
X-JAPAN (forefathers of visuel kei, perhaps my favourite J-Rock band)
L-arc-en-ciel
HYDE (lead of L-arc)
LUNA SEA
Malice Mizer (old school VK)
Dir en Grey
GACKT (little more on the poppy side, but he's got a few token rock songs)
Sex Machineguns
There's too many to list, but there's a good start.
Recommend some English bands now will ya?

No way!
The people who made DDR probably sampled some X Japan music, but X Japan is far from DDR music.

Go pick up Elton's album "Tumbleweed Connection." Get that one stuck in your head instead. No, seriously, that album is on my top 10 all time list fo' sho'. Also contains what I consider to this day to be the best song ever written by modern man... a little diddy called "Talking Old Soldiers."

xjapan. may hide r.i.p. my friend was at his funeral. when the remaining members played forever love for him that was very tear-jerking. i always wait for the one day someone will sing Art of Life, in it's 30-minute glory, at karaoke.

but i'm a fan of the pop stars from my country too. AKB48, Nami Tamaki, Brilliant Green, etc.

I"ve listened to Art of Life on road trips and while sitting in traffic and it's possibly the best piece of rock music ever recorded.
Are you aware of this so called new band that Yoshiki, Gackt, Sugizo (LS), and rumored Miyavi are forming?
I don't know what to expect from this collaboration, but it has my interested peaked!
RE: J-Pop
I'm also a fan of various J-Pop: Koda Kumi (best female performer, in my opinion), GLAY (are they considered pop?), globe, aya, etc.

I have to blame this one on the hubby. An ANCIENT song called "Beep Beep" about a Nash Rambler trying to pass a Cadillac. Anyways, the chorus goes, "Beep beep, beep beep his horn went beep beep beep." Try getting THAT one outta your head!

I fell in love with this piece over fifteen years ago. In those days I was an angry kid just out of school with a BS and a piss poor job.
My job was to analyze the output of the production system, analyze the product itself, and keep my lid on when the upstairs people did something dumb.
All good things come to an end. Mine came when they shut the plant down.
I took a little career detour or two... and wandered and learned.
Fifteen years later.....
Tonight I stood at my new desk, holding onto the items I had taken from the floor. One door closes and another opens. Yes, I got a promotion this week. Yes, I'm apprehensive that I won't do the job well.
I am extremely psyched - I've been lobbying to work on this product line for over a year now. I never imagined I'd get in on the design and implementation group. Note to self - Next time think big and talk to the people who can say "Yes" rather than say "Maybe" or "No".
They haven't given me my computer yet nor my phone but everyone knows that I'm "going forward". I walked around the silent office, listening to the climate system, looking at the desks of people I've known for some time, seeing their work in progress, remembering what it was like "in the office" and remembering how it used to be and can never be again.
I remembered this piece....
