A Mazdaspeed 2 would be interesting if they follow the same guidelines as the 3... droool...

Looks nice! I like it! I hope it would get credible mpg. Anyword if it will come to the U.S.? I love hatches especially cool and funky looking ones (Yaris included:wink:) I love that green color, my fav.
Mazda could use a car below the Mazda3. I wonder if Ford will use the Mazda2 platform for any possible small car, seems likely if it were to happen, cuts costs down from created a new car.

I saw a mazdaspeed 3 at the Auto show.... They look bad ass..

And according to a couple of reviews I read, they drive badass too...

ChinoCharles

For a starting price of just under $23,000, that car had better drive REALLY badass.

I stongly considered it as well... but... almost double the price of a Yaris... and no manual transmission option on the 1.8 liter engine, only 1.6... How crap is that?

ChinoCharles
02-13-2007, 10:21 PM
Almost as "crap" as us not getting tachs.

Man, we're just full of points tonight.

[I need to go to bed, LOL]

eTiMaGo
02-13-2007, 11:07 PM
yeah better be careful we don't poke our eyes out with all those sharp points

But this got me thinking, out of curiosity, in the US, do most models of japanese imported cars have a manual transmission option?

ChinoCharles
02-13-2007, 11:13 PM
Badum-CHA! :bellyroll:

I would say most small cars have a manual option. Doesn't matter if they're imports or domestic.

Less and less larger cars have a true manual option. A handfull have tiptronic, but it isn't the same as stomping that clutch.

In short, American drivers are sissies.

It's a sad state here too... even the "sport" models (new ford focus with 2.0 engine, or Mazda 3 sport wagon for example) are automatic only... I had to go with the bottom trim level of the Yaris since that's the only one with a manual... so what, manual transmissions are a status symbol of the poor?

Yaris Revenge

Weird. You realize that the new Smart Fortwo with a 900cc 3 cylinder engine will be producing 15 more HP than the 1.3 L Mazda 2, right? Something about that just seems wrong... :iono:

It better get some DARN good mileage, if that's the case!

it IS a sharp little thing, though.

The One that Charles says Bases at $22K is the MazdaSpeed 3 or Mazda 3 MPS. That is a six speed manual ONLY.

2.3L 250Hp FTW!

I think I may get that car instead of the Yaris.

i gotta admit, the exterior and interior design aint thaaat bad. almost every mazda out there looks pretty damn good, even their mazda5, which we considered alongside our sienna. but the interior layout will make any aftermarket stereos and/or in-dash navis quite difficult. and the fun of getting these inexpensive compacts is customizing the crap out of it...

Why integrate the radio into the dash, a low quality one at that???? Major gigantic PITA to swap out and maintain a stock look.

I couldnt do it... it would have alot of ground to make up for those 2 shortcomings.

Yeah there's an article that Ford is coming out with a small car more than likely based off the Mazda2 but I rather buy a car with the Mazda badge on it.

The only part of that car I don't like the looks of is the Trapper Keeper design on the seats. The front end also isn't ideal, but I could live with it, since eveything else is so very, very nice. Another score for Mazda, imo.

no need to panic now...
it's not a competition for yaris...
according to most internet resources,
ford is not even planning to bring it over here... at least not in a short time...
one guy in a mazda forum even emailed mazda... they said no plan to bring it here...
ford will bring a crappy version of this here though...
it will be made in brazil...
as usual... ford always keep better cars out of america...
so... yaris will still rule...

but the grille where the mazda symbol is could use some work, they shouldnt have put those 2 wing things on the grille.

I don't see how it couldn't be in the Yaris price range... you can get a Mazda 3 starting @ $14,500, so a step down would inherently be a few thousand less.
