Not sure where the best place to post this was. Title says it all. If someone is sitting in the passenger seat the airbag light turns on and all of a sudden my turn signals no longer work and my cabin air fans dont turn on. Asked my fiance' to get up and let the airbag light turn off and suddenly the turn signals work again but the fans still dont blow air out. strange problem. anyone else had this or know of a solution to this??

Thanks!

started happening when I installed my O2 anti-fouler if that helps any or if that would effect any of that. I dont have much knowledge on car wiring and electronics.

o2 anti fouler?????

sounds like a loose ground connection somewhere or a few blown fuses..

I thought it was normal for the passenger airbag light to be on when someone was sitting in the passenger seat. Mine has come on from Day 1. I also have the passenger airbag light "off" light that comes on when I have something small in the seat, like a jug of milk. I suppose it thinks there's a baby in the seat, not a jug of milk.

it is normal for it to come on but I am just saying the problem only occurs when I put stuff in the seat heavy enough to trigger the airbag light or someone is sitting there. I've checked all of my fuses and nothing is blown. Im going to look for a loose ground somewhere.

The passenger airbag indicator is driven from the 10A GAUGE fuse. That same fuse supplies the control side of the relay for the blower motor. That fuse is in the under the bottom of the dash fuse panel.

The flasher relay also works off of that fuse.

In my experience thats what you get when you install aftermarket electronics sometimes.

Disconnect it and see if your problem goes away.

My advice never install a theft alarm unless you dont want your car to start.

Who would steal a Yaris?ECHO?

The Yaris is it's own security system.

why?

who cares, if I can recover the cost of the alarm system with the reduction in insurance costs in a couple of years then it is very much worth it.

this is very true xD and when you got a bunch of $400 skim boards/ couple hundred dollars worth of misc electronics and audio I think the alarm is worth it to deter people from breaking in :D

PS. I feel like a numbskull. first thing I did was pull all the fuses because I had no clue which one ran any of that equipment and in the frustration of laying under the steering wheel I must have skipped that one GAUGE fuse because it was blown. replaced and everything works perfect now. ugh haha. Thanks CTScott! My fiance' appreciates the help even more now that we have A/C :D

And thanks everyone else who gave input as well!

Good point.

Still...the number of cars i have seen with aftermarket alarms with electrical gremlins can be counted on the fingers and toes of both hands and feet.

did the owners do the work themselves? Unless I had the technical aptitude of CTScott I'd let a pro do that type of install. I've had an aftermarket alarm on all my cars and never had any problems.

As an FYI, the OP found that it was the fuse that I mentioned above.

Unknown.

When the freaking alarm goes off in the middle of the night in a car down the street for no reason theres usually no one to ask who installed it..

I suspect the "pros" who do the typical install have a very minimal ammount of expertise at it.

Probably for every 25 installs theres one or two cars with a problem.

I dont live in a high crime area (although I work in one) but I have a hard time imagining a Yaris would be a target for theft.

I guess if you turbo ed it that would qualify it as a target.

Another excellent reason not to do that.

While we're on the subject of things not to do to your car like aftermarket alarms and turbo s I might as well mention DONT WASH YOUR ENGINE WITH A HOSE!

My neighbor bought a used BMW R1100RT last summer and just HAD TO spray the engine with degreaser and hose it off.

We spent a month trying to start it. We took it to pieces finding what was wrong (shorted Hall sensor, that or the wiring to it)

why?

lol, yea that is pretty dumb. Even a turbo yaris wouldn't be taken for more than a joyride though, the Yaris market simply isn't lucrative enough. Especially when thieves can grab a Camry or Accord and chop it up and sell the parts individually.

All fuses are good under the dash and in the engine compartment. Any idea of what relay might be involved in all these common issues?

Thanks for any and all advice and direction,

Steve
