View Full Version : unauthorized amps
many internet dealers sell unauthorized amps at really good prices thus making them a little more affordable. the question is to buy or not to buy from these unauthorized dealers for the sake of saving a couple hundred dollars. is the selling of fake products rampant in this area (amps). are certain dealers more trustworthy than others.

fake products = cheaply built electronics that can short circuit and cause an electrical fire= your car on fire = insurance voiding coverage cuz of fake/poorly installed audio equipment..
if you ant afford it, be patient, save up some money and buy a good product, kicker, alpine , MTX all make good amplifiers.(many more companies i just named a few common ones) those 3 also make good speakers/subwoofers..

What amps are you talking about ? I've ran Hifonics Crunch and right now Audiopipe. All come with a warranty for at least a year. I'm not too much for name brands the onlything name brand in my car are kicker CVR 12s and my Kenwood Headunit. Give me an example of what you're looking at ?

It's not the equipment per se, it's the retailer. Some of the worst offenders are Sonicelectronics and woofersetc.
I do know that my shop in Vancover, WA is a Maxxsonics distributor. We can get GREAT pricing on those Maxxsonics products (to include MB Quart).
What you're looking at is the risk if any of the equipment goes down. What will usually happen is that you'll send the equipment back to the retailer and they send you out another one. Well...sometimes they don't have a replacement and can't get one. Bait and switch. It's that or they sit on the RA for months. I'm not saying that it happens for every transaction but it's not uncommon to see state attorney generals with lawsuits for fraud against retailers like this.
Alpine pdx-4/3/2 $320 from Amazon vendors. retail $499. powerbass xax 4160 at amazon (auth. dealer) about $160.

Sq how close to internet prices can the shop you frequent get ? Say for someone who lives around your area. Or are there prices pretty far out there ? Example Hifonics Brutus BRZ 1700D. $200 shipped. Can a shop compete with that price ?
I'd buy from you ina heartbeat Sq but shipping seems to be a (female dog). I just bought a 1500 watt amp that does a hair under rated and puts out a clean signal for 112 bucks. I mean if the thing last me a year I got my moneys worth and then some. But on the other hand people want quality and own the same amp for 4 -5 years. And pay tripple the price. I hnestly can't see myself paying 4-500 dollars for an amp that pushes the same power. But electronics now a days are built so cheaply they're priced to be pretty much disposable.
How do these unauthorized dealers get a hold of these unauthorized amps if the manufacturer controls the release of their products. I called Alpine and they had nothing to say about the matter ?

Through a wholesale distributor ? Think about it you have a warehouse full of last years model amps. Throw them a way ? Or try to at least get your cost back ?
Check out parts express they have a few items labeled as " Buyouts". Most are speakers.
Another Example : http://www.crutchfield.com/p_2067DCVR12/Kicker-07DCVR122.html
Vs http://www.vminnovations.com/Product_735/Kicker-CVR12-COMP-1600W-12-Inch-Subwoofers-with-Sub-Box-Pair-.html
Then go price them at Best Buy. Where do you think i bought them from ?

Heh funny my Kenwood deck just crapped out on me after a year and a half.
I'm debating on getting a Pioneer deck from either an unauthorized dealer and trust there 1 year warranty. See if Best Buy has the unit and see how much they marked it up. Or cruthfield. Crutchfield and the other store are within 10 bucks of each other.

Its betwween Crutchfield or Sonic Electronix for the 7400. I plan on having it ordered this week. I fixed my Kenwood but I'm tired of it. I'll sell it and pretty much spend 25 bucks on that Pioneer.
