so this is the first ever woofer box that me and my friend assembled, it was a good learning experience, box dimensions were as follows

12inch height
30 inch width
20 inch depth

3.2 cubic feet

port specs

3.5inches width
10.5inches height
internal port length (21.75")
giving me a tuning frequency of 36hz
port area per foot = 15.91 inches2
3/4 inch mdf used with wood glue on all joints with pilot-drilled wood screws. then silicone on the inside, Big credit to 412 CVX from Steve Meade Designs Forum (http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/) for helping me out on how to properly design this box :). and now the porn .

sorry for the monster size pics :P , first phase just getting the panels all lined up for test fitment

walls and port walls are in :)

clamps in this pic are just holding the smaller port wall in place while screws are being drilled in to lock it in place , also woofer cutouts have been measured out so they are spaced apart nice and evenly!.

woofer holes cut out, you can see the previous day we decided to put silicone on the joints a bit early :P,

getting ready to put the final piece in!!!, terminal was screwed into place and siliconed, we had to use a dremel to shorten the screws we were using so it wouldnt go all the way through the mdf for the terminal cup.

ALL DONE!!

now i have to wait until tomorrow evening to put subs in and try my new box out!! :)

btw this will be going in the trunk of a 2009 toyota yaris sedan.. lol

powered by a mtx tc3001 mono d amp, both subs are SVC 4 ohm 10inch Kicker COMPs , wired for 2 ohms as the amp puts out 300watts RMS at 2 ohm

cant wait to hear some slayer and arch enemy from this new box .

ill probably carpet it or sand it down and paint it flat black in the summer, too busy with college to give a damn on how it looks.. lol

up next on the build:

1.big 3 upgrade 0 gauge, distribution block in the trunk and new battery terminals.
2. Pioneer DEH- P7400HD head unit

fronts will be Pioneer TS-D1720C 6.5" component system (60 watts rms)
rears will be Pioneer Pioneer TS-D6902R (80 watts rms)

3. 4 channel MTX TC4004 50x4rms amplifier , powering front components(havent decided which brand yet, still researching), no rear speakers at first, if i dont like how it sounds i might just put in rear pioneer 6x9 coaxials.

4. soundproofing all 4 doors and trunk! (im thinking raammat and ensolite , or cld tiles, ccfoam and mlv , keeping budget in mind as well).

5. new battery when the toyota factory one starts showing signs of age

I would be interested to hear in person how that many watts or more would sound in the sedan. I am actually only running about 85-100w per sub for my audiobahn 10s and that hits really nice so I can only imagine how several hundred to thousands of watts would sound.

Congrats, man

What is your setup and what you plan buying?

current setup :

Head unit: Sony CDX -GT200 ( old as **** , it works but the built in crossovers suck!.)

speakers : factory front and rear

subwoofer: 2 kicker COMP SVC 4ohm 10inch woofers in a 3.2cubic foot custom ported box tuned to 36hz powered by a MTX TC3001 Mono D amplifier

future setup:

head unit: Pioneer DEH -P7400HD

speakers:

fronts will be P̶i̶o̶n̶e̶e̶r̶ ̶T̶S̶-̶A̶1̶6̶7̶4̶R̶ ̶3̶ ̶w̶a̶y̶ Pioneer TS-D1720C 6.5" component system (60 watts rms)
rears will be Pioneer Pioneer TS-D6902R (80 watts rms)

4 channel = MTX TC4004. 50 watts x4 RMS.
subwoofers: not changing a damn thing!

will be installing sound deadening in all 4 doors, possibly firewall, floor and trunk.

oh and you can kiss your trunk space goodbye with this box. :P

turning this thread into a build thread as well, first thing ill do is take a picture of my sub box, i have lost all my trunk space :( , next on the list is big 3 and head unit change. i might be starting a new job soon so i should be able to acquire the speakers, amp and deadening material within the next 2-4 weeks. ( if i get the job  ) , will add more pics of big 3, and the new speaker install. from the looks of it, i might reuse my 4 gauge currently running, i will verify what the fuse is on it and if its not above 90 amps, i will re run it with 0 gauge(knukonceptz 0 gauge)

congrats on making your first box.... I remember the first box I completely designed and made myself.... (was actually a box for SPL)... I've learned a lot since.

I like how you did the slot port, that helps with bracing, but it looks like you could've benefited from having a bit more internal bracing.

Good job on picking a decent tuning frequency... it should give a good amount of bump, yet at the same time is tuned low enough that hopefully it won't sound sloppy or too overbearing. I often found that 30-35hz was the optimum comprise between SPL and SQ for car environments.

last thing, if you have access to a router, taking a round-over bit to the port edges will help reduce any chance of port noise, tho it looks like you have more than enough port area (without me crunching the number) for those two tens.... I remember running similar port area for single 12" subs with high power/high excursion.

again... good job... your are close to being bitten with the box building bug.

Oh, and on the equipment side of things.... I always have to put my signature plug in for you to not run rear speakers, and to spend that money on either better fronts, more deadening, larger cable, or anything else as rear speakers add a lot of cost, but add nothing to the SQ realm, and very little to the SPL side of things.

thnx for the advice! , still trying to figure out where i can mount my tweeters for the components in the door panel :iono: , this new box pounds hard compared to my old 1.9cubic foot box, im trying to buy my head unit now, big 3 0 knu 0 gauge shud be here this week if not , next week.

why?
