ok, i installed my mesh grill yesterday. it took longer and was harder than i thought it would be. but here it is. it's nothing flashy, so don't expect too much.

thanks for the compliment. i haven't taken my car out of the garage ever since i installed it, but i'll be using my Yaris instead of the Camry tomorrow when i go to work. i'll try to take some far away pics after or before work. thanks again and i'm sure that you can do it yourself too.

lol...oops, should have mentioned that it's my dad's Camry. i'm teaching my brother how to drive (when ever i have some free time and it's not raining). there's no way i'm teaching my brother how to drive in my Yaris, it's new and a m/t. lol...sorry about that.

Great job on the install, looks better than it did and for the price you can't beat it. I had a similar grill from Grilletech on my old 01 civic and paid alot more than you did.

why do you think it looks crappy? i went for the flat black so it won't be too noticable. i don't want a ruined radiator or A/C compressor...

arent there smaller threads of mesh that you can apply that will help to make sure that little pebbles wont hit ure condenser?... i would like a DIY on this project, cool mod definately

wow brought back from the dead. yeah, i'm pretty sure there are patterns that have smaller diamonds, squares, etc. but i didn't want to restrict the air flow going to the radiator and condenser.

i tried to do a DIY, but the pics weren't working out.

here's the steps (minus the pics)

1. flatten out grill as much as possible (if it came rolled).
2. find a way to "stick" the grill in the location where you want it to be - i used zip-ties and some what tied it down a little.
3. with a sharpie, trace the inlet/grill parameter (trace a little beyond the borders). *make sure when your tracing, do it as straight as possible and make sure the grill itself does not move.
4. take off the grill.
5. cut a little within the traced border
6. zip-tie or find another way to mount the grill in place - i used several zip-ties to tie the grill down.
7. enjoy a new look and added protection.

it works great. even the plastic one i bought holds up to rocks and pebbles kicked up on the freeway (can't say the same for my paint on the hood).

Sway84
05-21-2007, 07:08 AM
yea i hate those damn pebbles lol... my hood :S... thats one of the reasons im affraid of getting a front bumper.... ps...u already have the bottom grill on, why not do the same for the under emblem one too?...

Kaotic Lazagna
05-21-2007, 01:10 PM
i like the honey-comb grill already on it. heh. i'm waiting for some one to make a nice looking grill (upper), like the "Civic Type R" grills on eBay. hehe.

Anyone knows how to change the upper grille?

redyaris
05-27-2007, 06:11 PM
The upper grill is pretty crappily held on by plastic tabs. Be careful when you try to remove it cuz those things will snap if you look at them wrong.

i wanna replace the "top" grille aka engine grille with mesh or some other custom piece... is there any pre fabbed???? iv searched online for hrs on end and even enlisted car friends to help but to no avail.... i want it and i want it now!!! lol help???? please & thank u

Kaotic Lazagna
07-18-2007, 12:41 AM
i don't believe that there is any out. you'll have to do what i did to my lower grill, buy a grill, and make it. the upper grill, i think, will be a little more complicated. to do it right, i would take off the front bumper and take out the OEM grill, then slap on the mesh grill.

however, there is a member here with a LB that did the upper grill, and it looks sweet!

i would buy two grills (or one big one if you can find one), and do what i said above.

it pops right out, use a small screw driver and pry on the bottom of the emblem lightly and it should pop right out

i think he was asking about the upper grill, the one located near the emblem.

Repost (unfortunately) of the lower grille screen. Since the original post has gone to internet heaven, I can say after 6000 miles with this, no more dented lower condenser. Next time I pop the nose cone off I am going to revise the design slightly as pine needles tend to get lodged in between the stock plastic grille thing and the plastic mesh. Otherwise, working as intended. Yeah it's low budget but there is some bizarre flying road debris down here.

The only thing I can't tell is how much, if any, it restricts airflow.

Yeah but yours is easier to maintain. If something unusual lands...I found a toothpick, a cheeze doodle, 3 leaves and something that looks like a bad hair weave I had to tweezer out of the mesh. If it's in the front it's easier to remove. Otherwise have to pop the nosecone for cleaning. Strangest road debris in the Southeast, collect them all.

For the record, the cheese doodle was stale.
