anybody take a chance at cracking open the side marker lights with a heat gun or something to replace the amber light with a hyper white light?

I don't think you needto crack it...there is a way to open it..read the manual..check it in the DIY forum, its online.

I'd still change mine to orange LEDs, it just seems safer in terms of visibility.

Being that its a HiLED, there is no "ricer color" when in the OFF position. The LED I used is exactly the 194 I have in the parking lights. There is no "bulb" per-say... take a look in my 194 post, you will see what I mean. And being as our side markers are not exactly clear see-through, it looks just like stock, except for the hint of orange that the stock halogen bulb gives.

I will also be changing it to HiLEDs orange LED, as it looks lame with that being the only bright white blinking bulb in the car, and I do not wish to change the others.

All my blinking signals will be LED orange very soon.

I installed these and love 'em. Here's a few pics. The connector on the right is the connector on your smoked leds'. It needs to plug into the connector on the left which is from the wiring harness inside the fender well. You'll have to slightly modify your connector on the smoked led lights. I used a dremmel tool to cut away the shroud exposing the pins. and they plugged right in to the wiring harness connector. I used some electrical tape to hold them together. Remember there is polarity here.

Easier idea... pop out one of your side markers, hold a piece of paper on the side of your car, and trace the outline of the hole. It'll be easy to see if the BMW marker will cover it then.

I got my set in the mail today (thanks Garm!) and they are 'plug and play' but the other end of the harness has to be plugged in to a certain polarity so if they don't work just unplug 'em and swap the plug around to reverse what you had the first time!

Now, I could still use a little help. These new side markers are a bit loose on my car. The original ones were a tad loose; but these are much looser, almost to the point where you can pull them off the car quite easily. So, I was wondering if 1) anyone else had this problem, and 2) if they did, what did they go to fix it?

OK, no advice then, huh? I was wondering if some silicon adhesive or sealant would be the way to go...thoughts?

By the way, I went outside now that is dark and this is when the side markers that Garm sells really shine! They are much brighter and noticeable than the stockers, and a heckuva look cooler looking! The blend in much better on my black hatchback, I'll take some pics over the weekend to show everyone.

This is a great mod, easy to do and not too expensive!

I did the same thing as kou with a set of flush motorcycle turn signals, except using orange paint (the bike is orange where they are), also Tamiya. I will see if I can find the instructions but it is pretty easy. It is pretty much remove the marker lights (easily done), cut some cardboard so only the outside is exposed (make the holes like the ones in your fender), and put on numerous light coats letting dry for about 10-15 minutes between each. Continue to do so until you reach the desired color.

Garm, thanks for the tip on silicon, I will get some today. The marker lights you sold me look excellent!

Cheers! M2

2 1/2" x 1" is the opening of the fender

What side marker of the SUVs did you compare? The X3 or the X5? Or even maybe the X6....

thanks for the sizes bro.

Hi

In Europe the side markers are clear on the Toyota Yaris. If anybody need a pair I can buy them for you and ship them.

Regards Steven.

Steven

The side markers in the US are clear as well, they are the same ones I saw in Germany, Austria and the UK; which is why folks here are painting or replacing them...

But it was very nice of you to offer!

Thanks....I saw somewhere here that a person from Cypress had posted a kit for the hatchback from Toyota used in lieu of the rear seat for utility type work. I tried contacting him but he never came back. Have you ever seen anything like this where you are? US has no idea what it is and the part number when I checked didn't ring any bells. Thinking maybe it's a Europe accessory.

I just got my smoked side repeaters. Looks like they're the same like garm sells, but mine were plug & play... Maybe EU connectors are different?
