tire recommendations - 2010 yaris

Anyone have a good recommendation for the next set of tires? I have a 2010 Yaris with 36K miles, and the OEM tires are going downhill fast, thought there was more life in them. Came stock with 185/60R15s. Looking for affordable, quiet, comfort, reliable. Are there any standouts for the Yaris or is it hit or miss. I am in the desert with heat extremes in the summer and potholed city roads. When I read reviews online, it seems like for any tire there are lovers and haters. And do the tire pressure sensors need replacing with a new set or is this a myth to up the price? Thanks!

Replacing sensors is a myth that I personally have never heard of.

Did you search 'tire recommend'? You will see that responses can eventually leave you with about as much clarity as online reviews.

The sensors are only changed if you get custom rims that will not accept the OEM sensors. My tire requirements are almost in the opposite direction: sticky and wide; noise, comfort and price are secondary. That said, when I bought mine, it had Bridgestone Potenza RE92's in 185/60R15 (OEM size). They were quiet and dependable, with decent all season performance.

I just got a set of Hankook Optimo H727. 100,000 mile tread warranty, less than $100/tire, and great reviews. I have no complaints so far, and they seem to be a fine all season choice.

That would be a little larger than stock. Why not 195/55R15?

Highly suggest the Continental Pro Contact w/ Eco Plus . Have these on the '08 sedan and the ride is better , noise level lower , handling ( especially wet ) is better and fuel economy remains the same as with the Bridgestone RE 92s ( O.E.M. ) . These were originally bought for the 2010 3 door we had ( traded in ) and made a world of difference over the Eagle LS as well . A year ago we bought them for $93 each ( pre-tax ) , if I remember correctly . So , should be able to get them for under $70 each ( excluding tax , etc. ) . Wish that was available then :rolleyes: . Also, with the tire pressure sensors - just check the rubber gasket that seals it to the wheel. If the rubber is cracked or getting stiff - it needs replacing. But the whole sensor only needs replaced if it fails. The gasket (also called a TPMS rebuild kit) shouldn't cost you more than $5 per tire. I can get them to you for less than that.

Great price. I only got my set from discount tire direct through ebay because they were also giving away a $100 Visa prepaid card, bringing the total purchase to $240.
