Hi everyone,
I had already started a thread like one year ago but it was a very basic install
Now i will do it much better....I base it on SQcomp and DerickVeliz install...they are very nice guy and always ready to help...
Until now i have ordered
37.5sqft of MAT from RAAMaudio (http://www.raamaudio.com)
42 sqft of Peel and stick from the same place
Hybrid Audio Technologies tweeter L1Version2 from soundsolution
I plan to buy
Hertz audio midrange driver HL-70
HAT L6 for midbass
Powerbass ASA 700.5X 5 channel...4x50W RMS and 1x200W RMS
HU with 3 RCA ouput and crossover OR HU with active filter:thumbup:
Other sound deadending product from DON at http://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi
CLD TILES, CCF and MLV for floor
Extruded butyl rope for inside the doors
Velcro for CCFoam
And for the Subwoofer I haven't planned anything yet....I am open to suggestion...:iono:

The sub(s) ....
Where do you want to place the woofer(s)?

Actually I have read the whole thread of Derick....I think you have come to the conclusion that is it better to place them at the front...
But I would like to get them in the trunk since we are almost always 2 in the car...
Mid and tweet will go in A-Pillar
Midbass will go in front door
Bass would fo in trunk......what do you think ?

I have a question for you...
I will probably go for passive system...
So I will have this
A mono amplifier for SUB
A 2 channel for MID BASS
A 2 channel for MID RANGE AND TWEETER......HERE IS MY QUESTION!!
If the channel can drive 100W RMS and if I use passive xover..does it mean the tweeter will have 50W and the MID RANGE will have 50W too ?:iono:

Sorry, I really don't know how to answer that, my guess is depending on the x-overs design that's how the power will be delivered, and that the speaker produces lower notes will end up with more power than the tweeter itself.

Like I told you off-line we can trade/sell my a-pillars with the Mids in there, just plug your tweeter and you are all set, I know you don't want to spend that much money there either.
I may end up selling my 5 channel amp too. (just a heads up)
Talking about designing a system, the difference in control by going active or passive is day and night, also other part of the equation in your design is thinking about a head unit or a component like a Bit one by audison that gives you Time Alignment, EQ and many other fancy stuff. I can swear by Time Alignment it's some thing that I just can't live without!
Just my 2 cts.

I think you are better of with the sub in the trunk, unless you want to go through all the process of building a complex enclosure that ends up with a funny shape. Even though the I6SW it's amazing after all the hard work.
Also, T/A helps a lot blending and centering the image in the center of the car. For many weeks I could tell that the boom boom was coming slightly from the right and not the center, Time Alignment was a key factor to get it right in the center.
I know this is an expensive hobby, but if you really want the beauty of the Music, you need to have" Active x-overs, Time Alignment, Digital EQ, at least.
others can add their own opinions I'm not a pro, I did learn a lot from my trail and errors in my build, but if I had to do it again, it wouldn't be much different from now, than just more expensive amps, and maybe using all Hybrid-audio gear to be consistent.
We are here to help.

Thank you very much Derick!
I think I will start with passive for the moment....and maybe I will switch to active when I get more money haha
Could you make a sketch for me and correct me if I am wrong..
I will buy a HU with 3 or 4 output ? (I want my HU to go directly to AMP, no audiocontrol...)
Does the tweeter and midrange goes on same channel with xover ?
How much power you put into l1v2 ?
sorry for all my naive question :S

I order a PowerBass ASA 1100.5x!!!
Its the same then Derick uses...
It got 5 channel
SQCOMP and DERICK CAN YOU CORRECT ME....
Channel 1-2 goes to passive crossover and cross over goes to tweeter and midrange
Channel 3-4 goes to midbass
Channel 5 goes to sub
is it corect ??:iono:
That would be for a passive setup...
Later on I will change for active with a very nice HU like P99 but its not for now...

I am looking at these...MINIDSP (http://www.minidsp.com/)
Its a member on DIYMA that suggested me to go for these...you set the filter with an app on the computer...
It would be a nice passive setup...that I can change the filter if I want to...
SQCOMP I am waiting the quote for the L3 and the HL-70...I am ready to buy :)
When I get the L3 I plug the L1 and L3 on the Powerbass amp...Then I will look at the sub and pick up one...At that moment it will be a 2way + sub...will only be missing midbass and its amp!

I will go active with a P99 and put the mini DSP in the closet!
Looks to me that using the mini DSP is going active, passive crossovers go after the amp before speakers.
The diagram looks good, I watched the video for the mini DSP and even I know what they are talking about looked so complicated, it had no audio?, then I downloaded the manual and the same, I maybe sleepy but it feels too much for me, but at the same time interesting. and at $125 bucks each!
There is some thing about the P99 that makes all adjustments so easily and on demand, driving at any time.
any way here are some samples of passive x-overs:

How much is rated the P99 ?
I have read a lot on it and I dream of having it in my car but I know it is out of my budget....It looks so easy to adjust all the settings...and as you says it..ON DEMAND

What do you mean "How much is rated the P99?"
Are you asking about the power output of the source? If that's the case, the deck itself does not put out any Wattage...it's a tuner. My P-01 comes with a little 6 channel amplifier...It's a feature on the JDM P-01.

* Front stage can be accomplish with 1 set of speakers, 2, 3 or 4, Front stage means you build a 3Dimentional virtual stage in front of you. At least that's how I visualize it. There are better ways to explain, but don't think a pair of Tweeters, Mids and Midbass it's a front stage.

1 for sub
1 for lows
1 for Mids + Tweeter with passive x-over or use one of the MINIDSPs
if you don't like that go for the P99
there are other options too, that's not the end of the world.

Post 1879... shows my system as of today (the TA is different though), When I realized that taking advantage of the PLDs
in favor of my stage the answer was more clever than ever, Mids would go down in the kick area.
That's why I offered trade+sell my a-pillars with HL-70s,

Congratulations on your new Tweeters! they are awesome, just don't play them lower than 3.2kHz at 24. Mine are playing from 10kHz.
For the a-pillar build remember to start with a very solid baffle,

Baffle is the MDF ring you use to hold the speakers.
OK, this is my best shot, this would be my best advice from my experience and it's written in my thread some where.
If you go with the 80PRS, the Tweeters on a-pillars, woofer in the trunk and (pay attention here) get the L6 (Midbass) and put them on the doors I assure you will sound much better than the Mids on the a-pillars, I've gone through a big process of comparing and if I where you I would go that way.
PLDs would be in your favor, you will be full active, enjoy the extra width of the stage provided by the L6s down in the doors, since the L6 can play up to 5khz really nice and your tweeters can go down to 5 easily. I do this exercise many times to show how good the L6s are and turn of my Mids, believe me it's true.

Yes and no,
My point is that going this way it will have a better stage than 3 way with Mids in a-pillars,
In seconds I can turn off my mids and have a 2 way, it's not as spectacular as the 3 way for obvious reasons (PLDs) but sounds better than my old 3 way with Mids in a-pillars.

me "there is nothing wrong, it's legal in the state of Massachusetts to tint windows at 35%"
officer "yeah but did you install them?"
me "No, I had a professional do it"
officer "probably because of the dirt they look darker" "do you drink?"
me "Just water"
officer "it's ok if I run your ID into the system?"
me "please do so"
after 2 or 3 minutes...
officer "drive safely"
me "thank you"
I never had a speeding ticket or any other infraction since I was 16, hey that's more than 20 years!
D.
I am going to get arrested for sure...here in Quebec they are always looking at that...I tinted it at 20% for the passenger and driver window...it is legal only at around 50-70%...BUT my yaris has tu suffer to be awesome
I have order the spoiler..it looks like the stock one..!!!
never had anyone pull me over for my tint, and some of the more assholeish inspection places around me won't even give me a sticker because my tint is too dark for their antique broken down machines.

What do you mean with mids?
Yes you need another amp for more speakers
Check your HU instructions, I think that's where you have to check first for tuning adjustments.
Everything else looks ok

Also try to turn of the x-over on the amps, your HU should be able to control that, but go gentle on the volume, don't let the speaker clip.

HPF for my Lows is 63-80Hz
HPF for my Mids is 160-200Hz
that's in a 3 way, if I set up for 2 way:
HPF for MidBass would be 63-80Hz
why go 5khz ? that's too high
now if you are talking about LPF then the Midbass stops at 5kHz

Sorry, I meant for the HIGh (tweeter)...
I would set up the HPF at about 4Khz...
For the Midbass...I would like to get a HPF at 100Hz and a LPF at 5kHz...
But to what I have read and experimented...I can only set up a HPF..no LPF....
The only LPF I can set is for the Low....

Looking at the manual, looks you are going to be just fine!
I would set it up this way:
Sub - LPF 80Hz
Midbass - HPF 80Hz- LPF 5kHz
Tweeter - HPF 5kHz LPF Pass

why the polyfill stuffing behind the deck? Seems like that would increase the temperature of the deck, and any other electronics in that area.... Electronics don't like heat. I've got a denon deck with no internal amp that only has a 2amp fuse and it still gets hot when i play cd's.
I doubt the stuff does any amount of sound deadening if tha'ts what you are going for.

I didn't use any polyfill over there, I did put a layer of CCFoam (for vibrations) and a heat barrier above the HU under the air ducts and above the air ducts. In summer the sun heats the dashboard pretty hard, also on top added a few peaces of foam to get rid of a rattle under the speedo cluster.
Radiant Heat Barrier:

Yeah that's more than enough, but what really is going to make a difference since you will have a sub i the trunk is to cover with a layer of MLV all the floor, wheel wells and side panels, other wise you will end up with a HUMMM from the trunk.

And leave at least one drainage just in case!
And don't forget to make a chamber for the air vent, that is where most of the direct road noise gets into the cabin, you can do the following test now that your trunk is naked, lower your rear seats and drive on the high way, listen carefully while switching back and forth the air from circ to outside, you will hear the chamber open and close.

Wow!!! It makes a huge difference already!
For now I have only the Mids..which are actually the Pionner premier 6.5''..
Tomorrow I will wire and fire the L1v2! I will just drill a big hole in the a-pillar for now..Somewhen I will do like Derick did...put the tweeter in a plastic bag and put bondo under it to fit the tweeter on the a-pillar...
I can't wait to hear the L1v2 running!!
I haven't choosen a subwoofer for now...I am tempted by the Alpine type-r...
alpine subs are totally insane. Make sure you want crazy SPL, because Alpine dishes it all up. Honestly I think Type R might knock you unconscious in a car as small as the Yaris.
