I realize that the issue of how to remove the front emblem has been dealt with many times, but does anyone know if it can be completely disassembled in order to do more finely detailed painting?

Of course it can...but getting it back together may prove tricky.

Yes, of course it can, but there are holes behind it that would have to be covered. If you're serious, you also have to consider that even covering the holes leaves a large walled area on the front of the car that is anti-aerodynamic.

One idea might be to cut out the holed area behind and replace it with a mesh so that the air flow would cool the engine compartment, but I doubt it would look well...kinda like a single nostril... .

^ The emblem is two pieces, one chrome and one black. He is talking about the ability to seperate those two pieces in order to do some detail painting on it.

This thread has nothing to do with removing it from the car.

I tried but gave up. The back is plastic and the emblem is metal. They are glued together, and prying will bend the metal and mar the plastic. I sanded the metal by hand, primed and painted it as a unit. Worked good, but I was using flat black...not much can go wrong.

^ time and patience i used a bunch of toothpicks, a razor blade and some wd40 (to remove the 3m sticky tape) that bonds the plastic chrome emblem to the black plastic backing

What was your end result / goal for doing it?

Personally if I did black out badges I'd want to paint the chrome part black, then color match the plastic back part, and then stick it back together. (I think doing a black out of the front badge without disassembling it looks silly. You just end up with a black oval.)

still in progress did a '10 xb front emblem base #75312-12350 covered with 3dwhite carbonfibre vinyl and a '10 tacoma #75311-04060 (blacked out)
just to see what kind of outcome alittle smaller than the yaris one

Sounds like an interesting project! Pics when you're done?

Yeah, thanks for being judgemental. Btw, my yaris is black, blacked out badge...and it doesnt look silly. Anyway, I was simply relating my experience to the op.

I wasn't being judgmental, as black on black on a black car is still going to be black. I wasn't actually referring to you at all in my post. :respekt:

I don't mind blacked out emblems on black cars one bit. If I had a black car, I'd consider doing it myself. But, I don't...

What I was saying is that if you have a say a silver car, pry apart the front badge so your it looks the same as the back... like so..

Aside from my joke above, I think I did take my emblem apart once. I recall doing a bunch of work so I could have the black plastic background against the gloss black I was planning on using. I got it all done and when I put it back together I smudged it or something so I just re-blasted the entire thing one color. IIRC I had to dremel some plastic studs or something...
