GEEZ In november 2011, i purchased a 2 door (hatchback makes 3) most basic 2012 manual transmission YARIS... ASSUMING there would be no issue to outfit with kayak carrier. I have a thule lock down BIKE carrier that transferred over from my previous vehicle..a honda civic...to the hatchback with no problems...attaches to hatchback... and i put it on and take it off as needed when i transport the bicycle.
i do not want a bike mount on top of car. BUT, i need a secure way to mount the kayak on top of the 2 door. DO not want to drill holes...as i probably will not be keeping this vehicle until it dies and need to think resale down the road.

any suggestions. ? i want to sell the honda civic outright...but, have not done so...because i have no way to transport the kayak without it. Brilliant suggestions welcomed....as obviously, brain freeze prevented brilliant light bulbs going off in kayak direction when i was vehicle shopping growl growl
thanks

May I suggest a second car? Use it only for the kayak, just a $600 beater station wagon, don't worry about fuel mileage.... Unless you spend more time in the kayak than you do in the hatch!

good suggestion TLyttle....which is why i have not parted ways with the honda civic...have owned it 11 years...it has all carriers attached.. just looking to simplify and downsize these multiple vehicles...hassle to juggle parking multiple vehicles in city. i am considering the following as solution...., not convinced yet though. anyone out there with experience pulling a trailer behind a yaris? thinking that would turn some heads !!!!

Yes, i pull a trailer with my hatchback.
It must be a Manual transmission though, according to the owners book here in Canada. I use it for renovation material / garbage removal with the first trailer, and with the second trailer i pull my motorbike! My bike is a track racer so it and the trailer is very light.

But it works great !!!

Trailer is a great idea. I don't have a hitch on my Yaris, but I picked up a jetski trailer for free that I modified to use to haul my 2 kayaks and 1 canoe when we spend some family time on the water. The trailer weighs less than 200 lbs. I currently pull it with my Tacoma, but would be very comfortable towing it behind the Yaris.
