Which Rear Swaybar Would You Choose?

Just to see what the interest level is for options on rear swaybar. Choices being Ultra Racing 19mm, Ultra Racing 23mm, or the newer Whiteline unit.
Let's find out what you guys really want for your Yaris!

It has a couple of extra bends which make it tuck neatly up into the fold of the crossmember so that nothing is hanging down below the chassis. I live in an area where having more ground clearance is good. :wink:

I have the TRD and it's good for street and first add on.
And you can Feel a difference.
But I would go with 23 mm now for street
And adjustable for more serious intentions.

I have the TRD as the rest were not out at the time. It works for me so really no need to change.

While I did not include the TRD bar, that is another option and with the current price Sparks Toyota TRD Parts has it listed for, it's pretty damn reasonable!

I'm pretty sure TRD isn't on the list because the intent of this thread is to show Garm that there is still significant interest in the 23mm UR bar. There was talk of discontinuing the 23mm UR in favor of the adjustable 22mm Whiteline bar.

I wanted the 23mm. Told the four bushing whitehouse was better, I chose to go trd. So...voice of reason having to spell it out for us stupid people, translate trd as a vote with my feet fo the lack of 23mm availability. Doi!

What I did was ask if there was interest in the 23mm UR sway bar at the $200 price point. Because that's what it will be if we re-order it. (maybe a little less) --- racerb, pretty sure, said he'd be ok with that pricing level. I have an order pending, but let's see what you guys say in here. (I'll cross post this in your poll thread as well)

If you really want a UR 23mm sway bar right now, they are available on eBay.

The reason I'm pushing Whiteline is because they are motivated to work with us, offer great pricing, and there is ZERO downside to their product -- it's simply better!

Ok, good to know.

Just curious: what do you mean by better? Do you mean less body roll (as in more effective)? or Better quality (have you had issues with the UR)? or do you just mean better customer service?

The reason I ask is this: I had a Mazda2 with RacingBeat rear swaybar; it was not exactly the same setup, but was similar in that it had the "U" brackets that mounted over the beam. While it was VERY effective at keeping the car flat in autocross, I found it to be overkill for daily driving: I constantly had a wheel in the air when turning into driveways, and had to retighten the U-bolts several times to keep it tight against the beam.

Now it appears that the Whiteline does allow for some twist in the beam, which could help to eliminate the "doglegging" problem, however, I am still concerned about having to continually tighten the U-bolts. Also, have you had any issues with squeaking bushings? Eventually, my urethane bushings began squeaking and required removal/relubricating.

While this all may seem like minor maintenance (and it is), and I may seem lazy, its just that I see no need in buying a product that requires this type of maintenance if it is overkill for daily driving / occasional autocross when other options are "install and forget it".

When I mean "zero downside", I am including most of your concerns. No reports of noise, doglegging, or properly installed bolts/nuts coming loose from the several sway bars I've sold so far. I can only answer to this point in time, as I don't have a long history with Whiteline. Yet! :smile:

I'm going to switch on my own car and give some feedback from the track. I could make some predictions, but I think it's best not to do that.

Customer Service: Huge point, glad you brought it up. Problem or flaw with UR bar: it's 100% on me, I can't send it back to Malaysia or get a replacement, etc. I have to be real and start including that in my pricing.

Whiteline is here and 100% responsive to us. I can get parts, replacements, etc. and the shipping cost from the Malaysia to the USA doesn't have to be passed on to you guys.

I did not realize that UR is out of Malaysia.... thats a big minus in my book, and I can understand your concerns about service.

So that basically leaves two options: Whiteline or TRD.... Looks like I need to do some reading on owners opinions.

The fine print usually indicates for off-road use only and no warranty if used for racing purposes. Can you let us know what is covered and what limitations are specified.

I would consider the TRD bar because if it becomes a port installed (factory) option for the 2012, like it was for the previous gen car, you would not be actually using the stock class swaybar allowance leaving the front bar open to change. ;)

@Jeff, yeah there is a portion of that warranty that states, that any product sold maked "Race", "Competition", or "Off-Road Only" will not be covered, that is what usually gets us gear heads is the fine print!!

Good point and my car being a 2010 falls under those guidelines already, interesting!! Haven't had time to do much experimenting with the Yaris handling, but most of my previous FWD racecars, performed better without a front bar on the race track. Bar worked good right up to the point I added a LSD, then it was plow city, no amount of tweakin' made it go way. Then one day I disconnect the front bar and Oh My God what a difference!!
