Grinding in 4th gear?

Hey guys,

I recently changed my transmission fluid on my MT '09 liftback, I used Redline MT-90 (as recommended by many people here) and it has been awesome...until now.
I changed it on Tuesday which was 2 days ago, and now every time I go from 3rd to 4th it grinds slightly going into 4th, it doesn't do this with any other gear.

Is this to be expected? Will it go away after time? I'm really worried about it as it's never done this before, and I was driving it earlier today and it was fine, it was only until I drove it for a long while today that it started doing it.
My car has about 30k on it too, so I don't think the syncros (sp?) could be going bad.

Anyone have any advice? :help:

Very strange, I had nothing but good times when I switched to MT-90....
Are you sure the level is correct?
Are you still able to shift into 1st at speed?

Yeah, it took 2 quarts.

Every other gear is fine except the occasional 4th gear grinding.
It's only for a split second too, it's right before I enter third I can hear a little grinding sound but it still goes in just fine.

I thought I wasn't pushing in the clutch hard enough but that wasn't the case.

I'm going to drive it here a little bit to work, maybe it will go away after time.

try changing tranny fluid to synthetic...i prefer amsoil which got rid of my grind in 2nd and 3rd on my celica..took 3 weeks from when i changed it though for grind to completely stop i guess oil need to settle

The MT-90 is claimed to be a true synthetic ( http://www.redlineoil.com/product.aspx?pid=46&pcid=7 ) and no issues in the '08 we had . Only improvements . sorry didnt read that he changed the oil.. makes sure its the right oil specs and maybe give it 2-3 weeks to settle...

Well I took it for a drive today and I think i've come to the conclusion that it's only happening when the transmission is warmed up, and the grinding occurs when I have the clutch pedal fully pressed and i'm going from 3rd to 4th.

I have noticed the exact same thing.....I can't even get it consistently to do it.



However, I drove a brand new Scion xD, and I got the same sensation. Toyota dealer told me there is nothing wrong with the transmission (no shavings, ect) so I'm going to be careful and ignore this.

i still tend to belive that the best tranny fluid for this trasmission is the the one from the dealer and nothing else

if i would be you i would have it changed to the OEM one
