Good post Rami.

The number one cause of broken wheel studs is due to irresponsible service people using air wrenches set at maximum torque. Some even cross thread the lug nuts on the stud with the air wrench because they were too lazy to hand start it first. Cross threaded or not, the air wrench is screwing it on.

So, when you try to take off the lug nut, the lug will break because it is on so tight.

Anytime I have my tires removed from the dealer, the first thing I do when I get home is to loosen them with my air wrench and tighten them down to around 75 foot lbs.

I recently had new tires and wheels put on my Yaris at the dealership. My air wrench could barely loosen them. If I had a flat tire on the highway, I would have broken off every lug trying to take the tire off.

I once had two rear wheel studs break (drum brakes) at a tire dealer when they removed the wheels to install new tires. This was the very first time any of the wheels were removed.
I actually saw it happen.

The tire dealer told me that it happens more than some people realize and they replaced them for free in a couple of minutes. They obviously had much experience at replacing them.
