09 Supercharged Yais Oil Analysis

I installed my Blitz Supercharger a year and about 7,000 miles ago on my 09 Yaris, so I figured this would be a good time to have an oil analysis done to see if it has had any ill effects on the engine. The good news from the Blackstone Labs oil analysis is that it has not.

I change my oil every 3,500 miles and have used synthetic oil and OEM filters since I purchased the car new in October of 2008. For the past year I have been using Napa 5W-30 synthetic oil, since it costs about the same as major brand non-synthetic. Here is the oil analysis report:

Lookin' good . Must be sodium is used in the NAPA ( Valvoline ) . Blackstone wrote 5w-20 instead of 5w-30 . Could you get Toyota ( Mobil ) 5w-30 synthetic at a discount ? Be nice to see a U.O.A. for that :wink: . Thanks .

That's correct that Napa is really Valvoline and this run was indeed 5W-20. After I drained for this test I switched to 5W-30 for the summer.

I don't have any association with Toyota to get their oil at a discount, which is why I like the Napa synthetic. I realize that Valvoline is considered behind the times with their synthetic, but I grew up on Valvoline products (been using them since my 72 Plymouth Scamp), and have always been happy with them. I think with me doing oil changes at 3,500, I could probably run any cheap oil and would never have issues.

Not necessarily. I "learned" to change oil every 3,000 miles, so it's just my mind set. Blackstone said that people running synthetic (and having them do analysis) on the 1NZ-FE average 6200 miles. If you want to know if 5,000 is OK, then just run a test with them and select the option TBN (total base number) report, which indicates how much of an oil's original additives are left. Over time that number will decrease. The TBN analysis will indicate if you should be changing it sooner than you are or if you could go longer with the oil. I suspect that If I paid the extra $10 for the test that mine would have been close to its factory value.

I tend to change the oil in my yaris every 6 months regardless. that being said, I drove less than 6k miles on the yars. it is my spare vehicle. I have a DD that will die eventually. then it will see some miles. currently 234k on my other car (and counting).

'72 Scamp :drool: . I had a '72 Dodge Dart w/ the slant 6 . Had many good times with it . We've used Valvoline in the past . The other 1/2s' sisters' husband is a die hard Valvoline user . He hates Quaker State and is not much of a fan for synthetics .

CT , how about trying the SHELL full synthetic 5w-20 at $3.17 a quart through BJs Wholesale and then post a U.O.A. on that ? :wink: Have posted a few U.O.A.s for the SHELL with good results .
