I caught the tail end of a report on the AM radio of power window switch fires on some Toyota's including Yaris cars. It has not been put on a recall campaign as of yet. I think Honda Fit's have a similar problem too...

Here's one of many articles about the problem....

Hmmmm. Maybe I should add a thermal fuse to mine.

The problem is that the power window system is fused with one 30 Amp fuse for all of the windows. 30 Amps is a lot of current and through a marginally undersized wire or circuit board trace it can mean the generation of a whole lot of heat (423 Watts of heat that is).

CT,are there any know cases of a switch failure in the Yaris, or is this more of just a blanket warning for any car bearing this part in general?

Someone on here had one stop working and get mighty hot a year or so ago.

I haven't seen anything reporting the actual number of issues with Yaris, but considering that all of the ones in question are made the same, there is an equal chance. We probably haven't seen more on here because the power package is an option, whereas with some of the other vehicles you automatically get power windows.

Is this just for 2008-2009?

The article says 07-09 for Yaris.

It also says that there have been 161 reports in 1.4 million potential vehicles, so that too may explain why we really haven't heard of it happening with the Yaris.
