Dealer (Spinelli Montreal)just called me up and said they'd pay me $460 to take out my Cruise control as evidently it interferes with police and fire radio communications.:iono: Well as i may have used the device once or twice since buying the car new in 08 i'm thinking they can have it.
Any one else get this notification?

Nice! Take the $460, let them pull the Rostra kit, and install the OEM stalk per my DIY, and you'll still be up $400.

Weird.

How is that even possible. There arent any transmitters involved. (are there?)

He must want to install it on his mistresses Yaris.

It is just the opposite. Supposedly the Rostra has some issues where it is susceptible to radio frequency emissions and can malfunction if a high wattage transmitter is keyed in close proximity.

I am an Amateur Radio Operator (Ham Radio Operator) and as such I have a radio in my Yaris. I have done extensive testing to get the cruise control to malfunction. I have the same cruise control as the OP has described (aftermarket Rostra one).

The only way I was able to make the cruise contol malfunction was to take a handheld radio and plug it into the cigarette lighter outlet. Otherwise using different frequencies and power levels I was unable to make the cruise control malfunction.

I tried using a normal VHF/UHF transmitter with power up to 50 watts and have experienced no problems with the cruise. But .. using 5 watts (and plugged into the cigarette lighter outlet) I was able to make it malfunction. So .. an increase of power does not have an effect on the unit.

I have also been asked to remove my cruise control by the dealer .. and I have refused to remove it. I was offered $487 to have them remove it.

If i used it frequently i'd certainly be keeping it but i might be in a position to use it once a year if that so by all means have the darn thing which i never wanted to begin with but it was part of the power option package that came with the car, you want air? then you gotta have power windows and cruise control

Mine was dealer installed ... not a factory install.

The recall is only for the dealer/port installed Rostra aftermarket stand-alone system, not for the OEM cruise, which is built into the ECM.

So, as you've all pointed out, I have the Rostra kit as well, which was there when I bought it. I'd love to jump on this "recall"...should I contact the lot that I got it used from to see if they know anything about it?

To the best of my knowledge, so far the recall is only for Canada.

Do what CT says, and get them to remove it, and then do the OEM one!

Well we've got a rostra dealer installed kit, and it cancels speed selection when we hit a bump in the roads....no idea why.....first module was replaced because it shut off intermittently and wouldn't turn back on.....

Well well now I have to add Rosta CC to the list of things to NEVER do to your vehicle like wash the engine with a hose and degreaser and theft alarms.

Unless you are a sucker for punishment in which case by all means go right ahead! :headbang:

This thread has the soup to nuts info about the OEM cruise control for 06-11 Yaris. For your 09 auto, you simply need to add the cruise stalk to have fully functioning cruise. I sell the CC parts for a fraction of what the dealer would charge. For your 09 the CC stalk with wiring harness and mounting screws I sell for $40 shipped.

HA!! I don't think cruise came as an option in our ADM (Australian Domestic Market) Yaris, I've had a close look at the dash and can't find the cruise symbol anywhere.

Here in Canada It was something the dealer installed after the car was delivered to the dealership,i believe the one on my car was made by a company called Rostra.
Light indicating it was on was a small green light on the cruise stalk.
When they took out the cruise they put a whole new housing assembly around the steering column so the hole where the stalk came out is no longer there,

My USDM doesn't have a dash light either, just a green indicator light on the stalk indicating that it was on/off.

I still have my Rostra cruise .. and it works just fine so I have no reason to remove it. I know I can make some money by removing it, but I maintain .. if it isn't broken why fix it.

Because you can get ~$500, the re-purchase Scott's kit for $40, and be up $460?

If this were an option in the US, I'd be all over it.

I have seen the install document for the OEM cruise and it is something I would never be able to undertake myself so I would have to pay someone to install it. So ... just doesn't make sense for me at any cost, even if I am in Canada and can take advantage of it.

Any meets in your area where another member could help you?

I never use my cruise anyways (so I am not interested in removing my Rostra cruise). Also according to my ScanGauge I do much better if I drive the car myself .. so a new cruise is just not something that interests me, even if I could find someone to assist me in the install. (Besides I only know of 1 other YW member that lives in my area)

So, if you don't use it, why not make some cash? I understand it'd take time out of yoru day, but if you do any other modding, or have other hobbies, an few hundred dollars extra wouldn't be bad...

What about MI, are you active on there? Seems meetups are more commonly discussed and attended when organized on that site (See the Ontario BBQ that was hosted by thebarber, for example).

Just my $0.02, and I'm certainly not trying to push you to do something you don't want to do, just trying to understand your logic :)

I had no reason to uninstall it either,it was installed as part of the purchase price for the equipment options that came with the car so i wasnt about to refuse to have it installed, 4 years later they call me up and say they want to uninstall it and pay me the cost of the cruise:iono: Ok then take it out,i never used it anyway,,I can do a lot more with $538 than i could ever do with that useless cruise unit.
