Hi YarisWorlders,

Got my first 38mpg+ (38.02mpg, to be exact) tank of gas the other day. I'm pretty happy. Best mpg to date. Doing a lot of coasting and neutral coasting lately. I'm pretty happy....

are you running a manual? you know coasting in gear will cause it to go into DFCO and can yield better numbers. what is the air pressure in your tires? how long of a commute? sedan or hatch?

what was your MPG before?

just curious.

Doing a lot of coasting and neutral coasting lately.

To me, this implies that he is using a combination of coasting in neutral, and in gear, based on situation.

Hi BEEF and WeeYari,

WeeYari is right. I'm using a combination of DFCO and neutral coasting, based on the situation. I usually keep my tire air pressure around 41-42psi. My commute varies depending on the day. Monday through Thursday I have around a 24 miles commute both ways to work, and the rest of the week around 10 miles or so round trip. I have a 2012 3 door automatic hatch. Wish I had gotten the manual, but live and learn I suppose. And I usually get around 32-36mpg in summer, and 28-33mpg in winter. I know I'd get 40+ mpg if I had a longer commute on the highway.
I'm just continually trying to improve on those numbers.....

didn't see your earlier thread (until it was pointed out).

it must be the auto that is the big caveat. I have been doing consistent 40mpg though I feel that will change as I am putting performancy bits on my car. I will say these little cars like the high revs.

given that it is an auto, 38mpg is actually pretty good.

do you have a scangauge or ultragauge? those things are worth their weight in gold.

^ That's funny given that you actually had posted a response in his earlier thread.

Said thread also indicates he is using an Ecometer.

oh crap, did I? wow, my bad.

why?

this is comedy gold.

Good job on 38 mpg, especially without long commutes it can be tough to get in that range.

Keep your eye on the ecometer and you should be able to figure out how to get even better gas mileage. Try all different ideas until you figure out what suits your conditions best. So many things effect gas mileage.

What tires are you running on? Also, how many miles on the tires?

Way to go ... thats pretty good mileage. It is right around my lifetime average .. 38.6664 US MPG.

I have found that shifting into gears early and using DFCO does wonders for gas mileage.

I've been happy with my mileage. I run my tires closer to 32-35 psi, and my longest commute is usually a daily drive of 5 miles stop and go.... I average 38 or 39 mpg. I have the 2007 sedan (manual)
