View Full Version : Poll: Should Crashy #2 become a Yaris Truck or Convertible or ...?

So, tonight as my daughters were driving Crashy #2 into the garage we were debating her fate. The girls decided that I should post a poll to get people's opinions on what we do with her:

Convertible?

This picture was photoshopped back in 2006 and depicts a bit more practical convertible than the Five Axis Yaris that was shown at the 2007 SEMA show.

Truck?

Crashy is already a great prototype of this concept, but having doors and a windshield might be nice while plowing snow. With fenders, a bumper and headlights, she will be a bit more recognizable as a Yaris when she's plowing snow. Also, with Crashy #2 being street legal, she would save me some serious gas versus my Tacoma when doing dump and Home Depot runs.

Something else?

Have another idea - sketch it up or photoshop it.

A chopped-top, like the old 'rodders used to do is my vote.

convertible. or...punch out the sheetmetal on top, keep the door frames and make it like the FIAT 500c LOL

I have another idea too, but i'll have to sketch it later.

I vote this.
The convertible looks a bit... odd to me.
The 500 top would be a great compromise IMO. Keeping the whole frame stiff enough might be a very big challenge...
You could still make your existing truck "more refined and Yaris looking", no?

The 500 style convertible would be an easy one to do, particularly since the center of the roof is just a thin sheet. All of the structure is in the sides and the couple of cross members.

As for the existing Crashy, the issue with her is that it would be very difficult to make her street legal, yet it would be very handy to have the little street legal truck.

Make crashy 2 a truck, but then take crashy 1 and make it a pure off road vehicle. dune buggy, rally racer?

Someone would have to sketch up the 500 type of roof to see it first. Personally if you were to do that I would think that chopping the roof a couple inches would be in order to look right? I am voting convertible for now with the options since you already have Crashy as a UTV. I totally understand the usefulness of having a C2 for road use, but still lean toward the convertible or 500 option...more so toward the 500 option.

A convertible has never yet been done properly, it gets my vote (though you do already have the Celica drop-top, it might be a bit too much to have two of those?)

Street legal truck! Way more practical. And don't worry so much about making her look "more refined and Yaris looking"... less of each would be better for a truck.

Being a practical person (and I know this isn't going to be popular) :iono: .. I just wonder how suitable a convertible would be in a northern state like CT. Maybe he should fix it up for his daughters to drive around town ?

I just cannot see a convertible working where I live (except during our short summer) and we have a similar latitude as CT.

I know that everyone wants something cool. I think that something cool can be made out of a stock Yaris.

I actually own a 92 Toyota Celica GT convertible that I picked up last fall. In CT a convertible can get a reasonable amount of use (typically from about mid/late march to mid/late October). My daughters are 13 and 9, so they still have a couple of years before they will be driving anywhere other than around the property.

One voice in my head keeps saying "you bought it for $2K, put $1K into it, and turn around and make a couple of thousand on it." Fortunately that voice keeps getting kicked in the head by the other six crazy ones.

Scott, would you be able to make it into an open deck, like the bB Open Deck in Japan? You get the truck look with a convertible look as well~

Yea .. I guess your daughters won't be driving it to Home Depot anytime soon. My sister has a BMW Z4 convertible that she drives in the summer (she lives in British Columbia .. west of here). I have driven in it .. and it is wonderful. I guess seeing as how you have your "normal" Yaris you are really free to do anything you want with this "crashy2" Yaris. Whatever you decide ... i'm sure it will be an adventure.

Oh ... MadMax, that is one awesome convertible. I would vote for a convertible like you have shown. I would totally want to drive it.

Doing a little image search for the bB Open Deck, that is kind of a cool combination of both worlds.

Check out this concept:

That is a very cool one. The other one you posted is the Five Axis Sema car, which was definitely cool looking, but probably not very enjoyable on the road.

I like that concept design more so than the bB Open deck. Because our car isn't exactly a toaster...that Kia concept would give you the natural curves that goes with our car.

For a truck version that would be a necessity, since I have two kids. I loved the Subaru Brat.

Crashy2 has turned into my longer range daily driver, since it gets better mileage than my supercharged 09. I am still tempted though to do something more fun with it. I may start with an entire roof sliding rag top.

OMG, great minds think alike! I saw the poll choices at the top, and instantly thought 'the convertible because he can give it to his girls'...then I scrolled down and saw this post.
