Two weeks ago I changed my belt in my 08 with a generic belt, squealled continously. After two weeks of putting up with it and keeping it tight enough, I broke down and bought a Toyota belt from the dealer for $50 bucks. I had it put in and guess what no squeals. I noted that the new belt is soft with soft cloth in the inside of the pulley instead of rubber. That is what keeps it quiet. Lesson learned. Buy toyota belts so they are quiet!!.

My OEM belt started squealing , after taking that Alternator out a few times, upon looking the belt had a lot of cracks in the v-side of the belt. I just replaced it with a new one from Advance Auto Parts and it doesn't squeal any more. I'm going to assume that the belt was lose from before and after putting a few miles on it, it wore out some and began to fail. My new belt was only $14USD and it immediately stopped squealing when i put it on so hopefully I won't have to get a new belt from Toyota.
