They had a yaris sedan on a rotisserie at the dealer today so I snapped some photos of its exhaust for those who don't know where the piping shrinks to 1.75"..

Hey Barber,
Thanks for posting the pics.
You convinced me to get a larger catback to axle pipe made after I get the prototype manifold dyno runs done. I took a good look and mine is exactly like those pictures of the demo car (except without the rust  )
Does anyone here know of a competent SoCal exhaust guy who does good custom mandrel bent pipework?

The right-most can I'd actually the resonator....as I've personally done it (before unmodding), just get a res-back exhaust built. The cat and Res are 2" thru and I went with a crush-bent 2.25" to a Megan axleback (also 2.25"). Was awesome.
Great pics!
Thanks Barber

I'll likely leave all the cans intact and just have a larger pipe fabricated from the exit of the last can to the axleback flange.
Lets get Malibu in here to fab some sedan midpipes now

That would not be a problem
Would you be willing to do some bulk production for some of us

Yes. However the flange on ghe end is going to be an issue...i can only do it flat flange style...vs ball
do both ends use the ball style? Would you have to leave it flange-less then?

The lack of a readily available de-catted/free-flowing mid pipe for the sedan is a major setback... It's the one performance piece that the sedan truly lacks from the hatchbacks. Its bottleneck design essentially mitigates performance potential from the a-back exhausts (sorry but I can't justify 2-300bucks for a different exhaust tone, blingy-looking tip, and a butt-dyno gain of 1-2hp that's a placebo effect). I'm sure even the "race" header applications could be enhanced by a free-flowing mid pipe.
So are we just going to sit and talk about it or actually get the ball rolling on this?

I found a local custom exhaust shop with their own mandrel bender, and am going to drop by to get a price on a midpipe for my hatchback. I want to keep the stock cat and all of the stock resonators, and just do the necked down section between the last resonator and the axleback.

I have no idea, but it's LaBree Motorsports in Canoga Park on Strathern not far from you. I found their business with an online search. It's highly likely that you already know them. I haven't talked to Brent yet, but I will this comng week after the flange is CNCed.

^ He doesn't do 2".
Shops that mandrel-bend 2" are very rare. Most will piece together stainless and weld it instead.

I'm open to either possibility.
Bob's Muffler in Bakersfield has 4 mandrel benders and does up to 3 1/2 inches... but it's not worth the drive. Welded pieces are just fine. No one is going to see them anyways.

in a couple weeks when our back log slows down, ill work on a replacement midpipe for both sedans & hatchies.

Maybe for the sedans, Malibu. I'm going to have one made here locally since I'll be paying the exhaust shop to cut off the old pipe and weld the new one on anyways.

bumping this one up... The sedan needs a mid-pipe option, better flowing cat or cat less, nothing can be worse than what we already have...
