So I have a 2007 hatchback and there is no light in the actual hatch/rear door. I tried looking around for a tut but didn't see one. I am wondering if anyone would be interested in one as I am thinking about putting one in. Kinda hard to see shit in the back at night..
there should be a hatch light. It is wired into the driver side of the cargo area. The light is hooked to the panel, maybe yours blew out.

I got it used so that may be it but I don't see any spot where it even would be...

It looks like why? is confusing the issue. He is referring to a light inside the cargo area on the left side panel.
You are looking for/asking about a light mounted on the hatch door itself. There is not one, so don't go looking for a spot where it might be.

No I understand he is saying there is a light on the side, but I don't see that either, the only interior light I have is up in the front for driver

That's odd.

In this link, you will see a pic of the cargo light that should be there.

I added a light to my hatch to make it easier to see my work at night(read labels, etc)...I just tapped into the existing light(which you seem to be missing) and used an led panel I found on Ebay that almost fit the access cover on the hatch perfectly. I used a little "Goop" to fill in the void and secure the panel, then painted a frame around the light to help pretty it up a little...it still needs something to finish it off, it still looks kinda crappy to me, but it works really well.
It's really bright now, I call it my chandelier :)

^^THAT is a freaking good idea!! I'm stealing it. Scions have a light like our hatch bay lights, but with a switch. i'll get that into the hatch itself so i can turn it on and off :D thanks. lol.

Since I shaved my rear wiper, but still have the control and the wires run to where the motor was I thought about wiring it up to that switch so I could control it from up front...I'll probably get around to that when I figure out a final fix for the appearance.
Enjoy!

That new light location is a great idea.
