Moving the seat rails

So I've got a 3dr 2007 hatchback and I'm 6 feet tall. The Yaris isn't as bad as /some/ small cars I've owned or rented, but has anybody thought of moving the seat rails backwards so the seat would slide back and forth at a greater distance from the dashboard? Even just a few inches?

I shoved the passenger seat all the way forward to have a look and the rail it's sliding on has another hole an inch or two forward of the hole with which it's bolted to the floor pan. I then slid the seat all the way back to see if there's another hole in similar configuration at the front end, but could not really see anything without taking the seat off. Which I didn't want to because it was raining at the time. So has anybody done that yet?

You can replace the rubber pedal pads with grip tape; that will buy you 1/4" of "legroom". :smile:

I have a 2010 5 dr LB. I made some 1/2" x 2" x 16" rails and moved the seats back 3 1/2". That was the max I could do. Attached a photo, if I figured out how to.

Man thats a great Idea.. What did you use for the rail extension piece? Id love to maybe move the driver seat back a couple inches..

I just measured them. The steel bars I used are actually 20" long. 1/2" thick and 20" wide. They hang a few inches in the foot area for the rear seat. But, I took the rear seat out and built a flat platform, so that doesn't matter. They are more than strong enough to support the back of the seat. Even with my 6'-4" 250 lbs.

It took about eight hours to drill them and get everything done with the seats.

For more comfort, I've been toying with the idea of having an upholstery shop add a couple of inches of stiff foam to the front of the seat bottom to extend it. And, recover them.

8 hours?!?! why did it take so long?? I figure it would be cut to length, measure out the bolt holes, and drill.. Throw in some paint and sealent..

Didn't have drill bits or a drill big enough to just make one pass at the holes. Had to start small and progressively increase the bit size.

That's a great idea, I'm having crazy problems with my back, I think that a lot of it is because of the yaris.

I'm not kidding, I lost my job because I couldn't stand anymore and the medical treatment that I received made it worse.

I'm seriously thinking about getting rid of the car, but would try this solution at first, can you please suggest where can I buy those steel rails?

Also, I'm wondering if this new setup made the seat angle to change, because now the original frame leg is facing a relativity horizontal surface, and not the floor original mounting points, that have an angle.

Bought mine from these guys. Was a different name. They will cut to length. Had to get some longer 10mm bolts to fit the existing threaded holes, which I found at Ace Hardware. I used 1/2" bolts to mount the seat on the bars.

^^^+1. Not doubting or anything, but I'm 6'5" and my biggest problem with the Yaris is the steering wheel material/position hurts my hands/wrists on long drives.
