Display does not show what gear I am in

the yaris we just bought dosen't display what gear you are in (D, R, 2, 1, etc) it is just blank.

any ideas?

The shift positions go to the ECM as separate inputs and then the position is sent to the cluster as a CAN Bus message, so the two things I would check are:

1. 10A GAUGE fuse in the fuse panel under the bottom of the dash.

2. Make sure the 9 pin connector on the automatic transmission is plugged in.

I'm pretty sure the earlier Gen 2s didn't feed the dash display. My '06 dosen't even though you can see on the cluster where the indicator would show.

the fuse looked ok, im guessing this is an earlier model that dosen't display. thanks for the help guys!
