I just came back from an amazing two week vacation in Italy. Our tour took us from as far South as the Island of Capri to as far North as just over the border in Lugano Switzerland. In the 1000+ miles that we traveled, I was glad to see a large quantity and variety of Yaris (1st gen, 2nd gen, 3rd gen, and Yaris Hybrids). After having an opportunity to put my hands on a Yaris D4D diesel at a dealership in France, two Summers ago, I really wanted to bring home a diesel with me and this trip I was finally able to:

Unfortunately, it is a MiniChamps 1:43 scale, so I won't be able to enjoy the purr of the 1NDTV. In our travels I did see quite a few automotive junkyards and was able to get contact info, so perhaps a 1NDTV engine will be in my future.

Before I headed to Italy I contacted some of the people from Yaris Club Italia and was hoping to have the opportunity to meet them, but I never seemed to stop moving long enough to make contact. I did have the opportunity to speak with a couple of Yaris owners while standing in line in Gelato shops in various cities. All but one Yaris that I saw in my travels were completely stock. The one modified one that I saw was in Rome, and was a 1st gen with a carbon fiber hood, rally spoiler, rims, and suspension mods. Unfortunately, I didn't catch a picture of it.

I did snap pics of quite a few Yaris, including some in some pretty cool locations:

In front of the Colosseum in Rome:

In front of the Vatican:

Parked against the Roman walls in Verona:

Headed down the mountain on the Island of Capri:

A third gen advertising the "Nouva (new) Yaris" in Milan:

You whore! Taking photos of other Yaris while yours sits alone in the garage. Adding injectors to injury, you even brought home a Euro wench, showing her off right in front of your lady!
OK, I better stop.

Europe sure does have a lot more Yaris. I think America is still hooked on "big" cars. I like that white one, front and center of that dealership.

Better to get a 1 liter salvaged gas engine than the diesel. It would cost more to run the diesel probably. Diesel is $3.69 and gas $3.38. There goes you savings.

Whats a 1 liter going for anyways?

I am not looking for one so much for cost savings, but rather just for the opportunity to mess around with one (and to have the only diesel Yaris in the US).

I totally missed what you meant by Globus. Now I understand though. Ours was a Perillo Tour. I thought I would hate the long bus runs, but we had a small and really good group, so chatting on the bus was never a drag.

Bwahahahaha! I thought I was the only one taking tourist shots of Yarii around the world!

I have pics of them in El Salvador, Germany, the UK, etc.; but I didn't see any in Korea while I was there. I'm heading to Japan in a few weeks, and am looking forward to not only Yaris-spoting by also hopefully finding some cool stuff for Sprocket!

I also grab diecast models when I can, either a Yaris (if I can find one) or MotorGP motorcycles.

Glad you had a good trip!

Cheers! M2

Gotcha. I get motion sickness like a mofo so I can't do buses. I even made it a point to tell my folks I wouldn't go if it was a bus tour and they told me it was going to be trains here and there...no bus. Complete lie! LOL

It was one of the worst two week periods of my life.

Did you stop by a bunch of those "AutoGrill" gas stations?

You know it! What a goldmine of a business (and owned by the Benetton clothes family). Nothing like being able to pick up a package of lupini beans and some scamorza cheese to snack on on the bus.

I keep trying to talk my wife and kids into a Japan vacation, but they don't think they can handle the flight. I think out next Yaris spotting trip (err vacation) is going to be either to Scandinavia and Russia or Spain and Portugal.

Yeah you could get one from a junk yard there and install it in your own private Yaris. In NJ theres no inspection just an OBD 2 scan.

Who would know?

The diesels must be over here. Its just a matter of finding one.

I will talk them into it.
What do they like most when going on a vacation to a foreign country?
I'll convince them, whatever they enjoy most!

Make a flight to australia, thailand and see yarii in action lol. Japan, although a great country, doesnt like to give up secrets (or junkyards in my experience) easily. Thailand is a bit corrupt so junkyard access is no issue Hahaha
