Shortest springs with original dampers; Yaris 3dr 2009-2011

I'm searching the shortest springs which I can use with the original dampers at my car (signature :wink:).

I searched the web and found tein.com/s_tech (http://www.tein.com/products/s_tech.html).
They say front and rear 1.9 inch (4.8 cm) lower.

They are street legal in Europe/ Germany?
They have a certificate for the technical monitoring association (TÜV)?

This are the shortest springs on market?

This would be OK, or 1.9 inch lower is too much for the original dampers?

What is the max. lowering for the original dampers?

At which value you would use also aftermarket shorter dampers (complete suspension)?

Someone have this TEIN springs? Or an other product?
How are your experiences?
Maybe the springs were too short and the original dampers were damaged quickly?

You can run Tien, or others with stock damper however for the life of me I can't imagine how aweful the ride and handling would be. The manufacturer may instruct you to cut the bump stops to gain increased travel, which you will need without stronger dampers to control the motion.

No issues here with Tein springs and stock dampers....Could be a wee bit stiffer but in time I will swap the shocks out, not a priority now. Car handles well.

A previous car I lowered 40 mm (1.58 inch) with sport springs of Eibach.
This was very well.

For the Yaris they have only 25 mm (0.98 inch) lowering springs.

You would recommend a complete sport suspension (springs and dumpers)?
Which you have or you would recommend?

You mean you will change the springs or you will add sport dumpers?

Which alloy rims/tires you have installed?
I have alloy rims and tires (185/60R15) like the original size.

yes you can run them with stock suspension. I ran ksport springs which have a similar drop for about 7500 miles without issue.

over very long distance, more stress will be put on the strut causing the strut to blow or become damaged but this will not happen for a while and at that time you can get new dampers. Even upgrade them.

Now how are the roads in Germany b/c in Portugal I know the roads are pretty beat up for a lowered car.

As far as I know the K SPORT sport springs would lower my YARIS 1.75 inch/44.5 mm.
But as far as I know without certificate for Germany (so not street legal here).

If I read your message - I understand it like this, with only lowering (sport) springs this will damage the original dampers.
So after a while I need to change the dampers, or need to go with a complete sport suspension (springs and dumpers).

Lowering springs for original damper usage:
Eibach (0.98 inch/25 mm),
H&R (1.18 inch/30 mm),
Vogtland (1.38 inch/35 mm),
K.A.W. (front 1.58 inch/40 mm - rear 1.18 inch/30 mm).

As far as I know, so 1.58 inch/40 mm is the max for my YARIS of the very well known manufacturers here in Germany (with certificate, so street legal here).
So maybe 1.58 inch/40 mm is the max for original dampers?

As far as I know, TEIN products have no certificate for german street usage (TÜV).

Now in the meantime I searched the web and found a few messages that the TEIN S.TECH lowering springs sag and sag...
Oh... maybe not a well choice?

I know someone which could help me to add the TEIN S.TECH lowering springs to the car papers so it's street legal here in Germany, but after reading the bad experiences... - maybe I will go with an other product...?

Average the streets here in Germany are very well.
But sometimes you must take care because of bad little holes or lowered 'manhole covers ?' (Gullideckel)...
But if you drove in you are awake and again fresh after a long journey... :wink:

The drop is going to hurt your dampers because they are not made to handle the car being so low to the ground as well as the spring rates being drastically different. As far as this causing an issue down the road, I am talking wayyy down the road. I have seen people put 100k miles before ever replacing the struts. Also the worse the roads, the more wear that your struts experience.

I think more what you have to worry about are inspections, if Germany does them and if the parts are not approved for the German DMV (not sure what its called there).

Vogtland sport springs (959028) front/rear 1.38 inch/35 mm drop (~ 180.- €) or with the...

H&R threaded suspension kit (29070-1) drop up to - front 2.76 inch/70 mm rear 2.36 inch/60 mm (~ 850.- €).

Except someone know a sport spring product with certificate for the german market (so except TEIN (1.9 inch) or AG Performance (2 inch)) which lower little bit more than the above mentioned Vogtland sport springs... :wink:


If the TEIN S.TECH sport springs would be in my car papers no problem with the police or the every two year check at the TÜV... :wink:

I would recommend calling a distributor in your area to get that information. Sorry but most of us are north americans so we don't really know the German rules/regulations.

From what I have seen Tein is not TUV certified. H&R lowering springs are TUV certified. I am not sure about any others.

Both H&R and Vogtland are TUV certified, and made in Germany.
I would not deviate from these!

Swift makes the best springs available.
Have a set on the GTR!!

But at 2.2K and 2.5K , that seems a little soft.

not yet, still waiting on a better deal. also im at 100k now so wearing out my shocks isnt really within my budget just yet. ill keep you guys posted if i do happen to snag some.
