Another header thread...

I recently received my Weapon-R header. I am going to heat wrap it and silicon seal it before installing it. My progress will be slow.

I will say that my wrapping is a little less than "professional". I think I will keep my day job.

I soaked the wrap so it would be more malleable. I am waiting for it to dry before I hit it with the silicon.

Looks like you did a reasonably neat job considering that particular header is a difficult complex shape to wrap... and those are really nifty stainless retainers.

(by the way, you have a very cute little daughter. :thumbsup: )

I think it would have wrapped much better if it were the 3 foot long beasts that you see on some of the old v8s. it was tight and finicky. I ended up getting the stainless steel wire ties from ebay. I didn't like the idea of paying $10 for 4. I got 25 for around $15 or so.

i tried to wrap mine...i got three rotations of wrap in & said fuck it...i have very little patience for stuff like that (suprisingly)

i may perhaps consider getting it swain coated

I checked with swaintech and they wanted $250 to coat it (not including shipping). a friend of mine got a long tube header for a chevette and had it done. he recommended them but I couldn't see paying that kind of money for it.

I would suggest getting the header exhaust kit from Micro Image.

Get the 45mm kit the flange on aftermarket headers tends to be thick and these studs work great and allow for easier instillation, the bottom middle bolt is a trick to get to, at least on the Megan Racing header it is.

someone on the MI forum recommended them. they have a dotted line that shows where to overlap. I did a really crappy job of the overlapping. it's a really funny shaped header.

looking back, you could probably get away with the motorcycle exhaust wrap kit. I bought a 50 foot roll of the 2" and have over half of it left.

Beef I think you're understating your wrap. It came out really good and looks well coated IMHO.

The install is fun, its not "hard" by any means but its in an awkward position so it can get annoying at times. Being under the car working in a tight spot with your arms reaching up...

As someone who has done header wrap; Good job!
I always start off with grand visions of perfection, then end up with crap.

Not much use for you, but some people use high temp paint on the wrap after instead of silicone spray. It adds the colour back and seals it. I will be doing this on my other car but it's exhaust is a *little* more visible than on a Yaris (headers stick out the sides of the car :wink:)

I silicon sealed the header. I did some spraying and hit it with the torch.

was waiting for the exhaust to do it all at one time but said screw it. the header went on. it was actually pretty easy and straight forward. for anyone that is thinking about doing it though...take off the cowl, it made things so much easier.

also, the header wrap and silicon sealant smoke and stink like nobodys business. I was told it will take a while to burn all of that off. I may be driving the yaris for a while to get rid of all that.

I've seen many of these comparison pictures but it is amazing just how little the runners really are. the ones on the Weapon-R seem almost twice the size of the original one.
