Did anyone else catch the Yaris comment last night at the beginning of the Top Gear USA season premiere?

The show was about the latest generation of police cars and at the beginning of the show Tanner Foust was cruising in an old Crown Vic and talking about the issues with them, when he said:

"...They are just too slow. Their top speed is only 129 MPH, which is about the same as a Toyota Yaris..."

I saw that. didn't think much about the comment but thought it was cool that the corvette police car came from wake county north carolina.

I also thought it was funny that they got stomped by a minivan.

***edit***

isn't the speed limiter on most vehicles set at around that same point? I actually thought it was lower around 120 or so.

Exactly. A Yaris would have to be going downhill in a hurricane to do 129 without a bypass module.

Bummer, History Channel/ Top Gear USA. Does not have it posted to the HC website. I'd like to see it.

I'm pretty sure he said Prius, not Yaris (but I could be wrong).

It was definitely Yaris. I was recording it while watching it, so at the commercial break I went back and listened to it again (and then when I came into the house from my office, my daughter said "Dad, did you hear them tool on the Yaris on Top Gear?")

Exactly the reason I never, ever watch TopGear US......
The UK lot quite like the little beast.

The comment doesn't bother me, it's not like Tanner Foust is a comedic genius, he just thought of it on the spot.

Top Gear UK is worlds better than the US version though. Just sayin'.

Yep, I don't waste my time with the US version of Top Gear.

The British show, on the other hand, is quite entertaining!

But all in all, I still think it's a pretty funny joke on the Crown Vic!

I really enjoy the UK show and it took me half of last season to realize that the US show is just a completely different show. Once you can force yourself into that realization the US one is actually pretty amusing.

The American show has plenty of differences with the UK show, and the UK will always be my favorite, but Top Gear US is surprisingly good. The guys have good chemistry, which is the same reason the original show does so well. Give it a chance, you'll really like it.

I saw a quick preview of this weeks show. It looks like they are going to take some sub-compact on a off road test. One of those pictured looked like a Yaris LB.

Close......it's a Scion iQ. They're going to beat the crap out of it along with a SmartCar and a Fiat 500 (offroading!?). Should be interesting.

Watched it tonight. The one big mistake they made was not using Crashy for tonight's show.

Scott, you should grab a couple cameras and try to recreate the segment, using Crashy, then send it to BBC America :D
