I have just bought my wife a 2005 vitz import. It has the stock head unit in place.
Its currently in japanese, is there any american firmware/boot disks for these to get them into english?

I have done a bit of searching around but nothing of much use yet.

Any help appreciated.

Nope, I am pretty sure it's hard coded. But if you don't mind the shipping, I'll sell you a stock one in English! :)

There are boot CDs for them in various languages, and I have seen some on some of the file sharing sites. The problem is the maps, as they are only available for the regions where the navigation units were intended to be sold.

Thanks CTScott.
All the file sharing i found either referred to megaupload or torrent sites so far i dont have much faith in any of the downloads to either brick it or be a virus.

Do you know of a download that is "ok".

I am fine paying for shipping of a unit, depending on costs:)

Oh and i dont really mind if the Nav doesnt work, i figured it wouldnt have maps for NZ.

I don't. I just looked into it a bit once in the past when someone else asked about that unit. I would think that in the end you'd be better off swapping it out with an aftermarket unit or one pulled from a local Yaris when someone else upgraded.

Yeah i thought that might be the case.
Ill see if there are any around. Luckily its not the type integrated into the dash so swapping it out should be simple.
