I just took my Yaris out for a drive today and noticed a little rattle when I turned on the fan, it stays on whether or not you have the Compressor running, but only gets worse when you turn the AC speed higher...

Hence through the sciences and genious that I had acknoledged, it has to be related to the Fan. So jus wondering if anyone else has had this problem?

Of course this is a warrenty thing, but will they try and give me crap for my Rims?

i have the same problem. the dealer told me its the heat shield. he said a lot of yaris folks have benn complaining about it lately. he said he could quiet it a bit with a modification but most likely it'll still rattle a bit now and then.

If it is a common problem within the new US Yaris', could it be time for a recall? But it is more of an annoyance than a safety concerne

Hi

I'm a user of previous version of yaris. It's TS (toyota sport) with 1.5l engine and I have similar problem. Sometimes it rattles sometimes it doesn't. Can you tell me where this heat shield is?

PFFFT . The real problem is that a small leaf or pine straw or dead bug went into your fresh air duct . The object is now lodged in next to your fan . It will eventually come out . Use the "fresh air" knob and also use the foot only vents . Let gravity do its job .

why should they give you crap for your rims ? just make sure they have a factory offset ( i believe about + 40 mm)

;p.s. my avatar pic is showing a subaru outback drawn by a donkey after a disgruntled japanese customer made his point just outside of subaru dealership in nagoya - the white/red banner says : SUBARU IS A PIECE OF SHIT. DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT BUING.

Pull the glove box and open the EMPTY filter housing. You can look right down at the fan when you do that. The next step is to turn on the fan and visually inspect the fan body assembly for debris being blown in to your face.

I pretty sure the rattling comes from engine bay not from the fan below the filter housing but I will check it too.

Another thing is that rattling stops when I rev the engine a little bit.

Oh. you where told it is possibly a heat shield on your exhaust? If so then it might be a bracket that is cracked on the heat shield. That same thing occured to me several years ago on another vehicle. I just pulled the shield of and had it welded.

BTW, how many miles on your car?

The car has around 50.000 mileage now.

I went to a local toyota garage and they told me it could be the compressor but they are not sure as the rattling didn't happen when I was there. It is strange to blame compressor as the rattling stops when I rev the engine a bit

If the AC compressor is making noise it might not have enough refrigerant in the system. Do you ever have the AC serviced before?
