Has anyone ever got one done? Must be expensive. I have a Daihatsu Charade 1.3 ltr 16 valve which is my second car. All was god until last Saturday when it died on me. The mechanic changed the battery it ran then died again. Prior to that when it was running. I keep hearing this boomin sound at idle speed. Is it the alternator? I bought the Charade with an intention of putting a new engine, a bigger 1.5 or 1.6 ltr conversion. The PO has clocked in 330 330 something K's on this buzzy but strong 1.3 liter engine is surprisingly strong and eager little unit. It runs good but the only thing is it dies. What could it be? I know the battery is not charging or there's some kind of electrical issue going on?

HELP! :iono:

First off, you're expecting a response to a car unrelated to what this community works on in under 12 hours. Be realistic.

I am posting it on the right section. Check the top; off-topic/ other cars. Plus Toyota owns 50 percent of Daihatsu.

If the battery isn't charging, my first thought would be the alternator. I think a better question might be : Why wasn't that the mechanic's thought before the battery. The only answer I can think of to that is a bit cynical----he had a battery in stock, but not an alternator.

I'm well aware of what topic you posted in. I'm just pointing out that the engine swaps done in this community revolve around the Yaris. Hence the site being named Yaris World, not Diahatsu World.

I'm not entirely certain (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daihatsu_Charade#Nameplate_return) that he's on the wrong forum...

That said, the only documented engine swaps have little or no DIY info, as most of it has to be done by professionals or specialists. I'm a bit confused about how you were able to get a grey market Euro car with an identical counterpart in the states, but more power to you if you did!

Thanks for the info mate.

Gonna get a new ALT and replace the one I have. The mechanic is an old trusted family mechanic we go to him all the time. My old man thinks highly of him, matter of fact he recommends him to just about everyone. But I just lost a bit of trust in the dude.

The plan is to put in a 1.6 ltr HD-E found in the Daihatsu Applause into the little Charade in the future. Disc breaks on all fours :headbang:

It could be the crank sensor.

Because the headlights go on.The battery is fine.Maybe clean and replace the terminals. If the engine wont crank or crank then die after. It could be the sensor or something.I'll find out as i go lol.

This Charade is easy to change oil and filter. Probably the only car that does not need to be elevated on a ramp. The sump plug is easy to get at and the fuel filter is right above it.

This is good because it's easy access, you can do it in the dark even, and no hassle of running it up a ramp etc. but also BAD because anyone if they want to armed with a spanner they can get under and undo both in less than 30 seconds .

It wasn't the alternator. But a blown fuse and bad battery terminal connection.I changed the battery, cleaned the connectors and replaced the blown 15 amp fuse for the EFI.

NOW, my problem is this weird booming, droning, pulsating sound at idle.It sounds like this; bvroom, bvroom, bvroom and it stops when you give it gas.I popped the hood open.I can definitely see on the engine. It's like it's pulsating too, same beat and all and it travels out the exhaust.

I signed up to the OZ Daihatsu forum but they were a bunch of A-holes and wouldn't help me:mad:

Who needs them when you have youtube and Carjunkies, com lol:laugh: Apparently the surging sound could be.

1) A vacuum leak or bad IAC motor (Idle Air Control).

2)Dirty throttle blade, which i cleaned but still made that horrid sound.

3)Timing belt could be out of whack water pump needs to be replaced.

The Daihatsu is more fun to drive than my YARI. :iono: rev happy little bugger.

Scratch all that. The problem was a my O2 sensor not hooked up.Got some connector from supercheap Auto. Wired it up and the idle surge is gone.

Nice job. Glad u found your issue. Sorry nobody here has been a big help. Hard to diagnosis car problems by reading them.

I like rice too.

I am having problem with "high idle".The surging is gone though. But when i put it in neutral and release the clutch the idle is running higher than normal.

Again,

1.It could be a vacuum leak.
2.AIC
3.TPS
4.Neutral control switch.
5.Sticky throttle.

I dunno. But one thing for sure I will give it a go. See if i can fix it myself.I love rice as well.
